Nato may deploy thousands of troops in Europe to ward off Russia

US, British and German troops may be deployed in Baltics, eastern and southern Europe in 'back to the future' deterrence

British troops could be deployed along Russia’s border with eastern Europe, under Nato plans to deter an incursion by Moscow.


Defence ministers meeting in Brussels today will discuss a significant new plan to reinforce the Baltics, central and southern Europe against a destabilising “hybrid” attack or full-blown occupation by Russian forces.


It could involve up to a battalion of 500-1,000 troops being sent to each of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria

think there has been under the blanket concerns here re Russia for some time now !

in fact we are sandwiched by trouble with Turkey below us as well.......not a healthy situation...IMHO

My understanding is that these deployments will take place next spring, which is at least 4 months away, for planned NATO exercise (s)

The article very clearly says it happens all the time in Russia where conscription is the norm. Nothing to do with preparing for war!
