| I have just read about a lot of Bulgaria on fire. I hope and pray everybody is safe an no damage has been done to buildings In the 10 years I have been associated with Bulgaria I have never seen a fire engine or fire station, but then it could be that I haven't look for that facility [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| The fires are a big worry and we have our share down this way, but no reports of substantial damage. Funny you should mention the fire stations...our local one is a big old barn type structure which is home to a couple of 6 wheel drive, ex military type (circa 1950) water tenders. The ones I have seen in the city are much the same...I vividly recall an incident last year in which two elderly citizens died on their apartment balcony, just about 100 metres from mine. A fire broke out in their home...fire brigade attended but didn't have a ladder long enough to reach the 4th floor balcony....nor could the trucks pump put water up that high!!! Police stations are another thing....in almost 11 years of continuous residence in Bulgaria, I've never seen a sign saying 'here I am' , I'm a police station! |
