Hi Guys

We have a Jeep Cherokee and we need a little advice please re the airconditioning. The aircon works fine but we keep loosing water from the header tank, I know you loose some water but it is losing too much in a short time. We have checked the pipes etc and all seems to be fine, not splits that we can see. Any ideas please..

What position is the temp gauge when all this is happening?

During normal driving on a warm day, the needle should stay around the halfway mark...using the aircon under those conditions should only make it move up just a fraction.

Things to check...

Radiator cap is sealing properly,

Fan belts are intact and correctly tensioned,

The big fan is turning when the engine is running,

The aircon matrix, intercooler and radiator fins are not clogged with dirt and dust. All of those things sit behind the grill and can easily get fouled...a good air nozzle will clean it all out...make sure to direct the air from the engine side of the radiator, not the other way around.

Because the aircon gets its cooling air first, there will be little correlation with the loss of coolant, but if the intercooler and/or radiator fins are blocked, engine cooling is not happening properly.

Sorry Baz to be honest we gave been snowed under today so not had a chance to see to Fergie yet. Can't do anything now as the garden is flooded so will look tomorrow. Will let you know how it all goes.

She had her first long run over 600km and she was perfect, love this girl....

She should be perfect....always loved and taken good care of; never gave me a moments bother in the years I owned her.
