Burgas Municipality launches the project "Management of Flood Risk" (IMFR), funded by BG02 "Integrated management of marine and inland waters", financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA FM) 2009-2014.

Burgas is convinced that prevention, monitoring and early warning will limit the damage with potential new floods and construct the project on this principle, "wrote the Municipality.
The final date for implementation is on 04.30.2016 There are the following main activities:
- Development of a geographical information system for water management;
- Installation of specialized equipment for 24-hour monitoring of water bodies in the municipality of Burgas;
- Creating opportunities for prevention through early identification of potential threats, and the creation of predictive models to assist local authorities and all stakeholders to take the necessary early measures to reduce flood damage.
The information system will include several key components. It is planned to be installed sensors and equipment for 24-hour monitoring of the water level, flow and precipitation, which will allow easy upgrade for measuring water quality, soil moisture and more. Will be installed software for data collection and their automatic validation. The collected data will be routed to a control center. Network camera will continuously monitor the state of the rivers and the sea.
The information system will provide detailed maps of threatened areas. It will enable the Municipality to develop scenarios for accurate and timely actions to control the risk of flooding, and to establish an effective early warning system.
