Has anyone been to the rose festival in Kazanlak ? It is supposed to be amazing. Might go this year if time allows.

I went a couple of years ago and I have to say its well worth the visit if only for the view and smell of the Roses. There will be host of people there from all walks of life and indeed form all over the world. there is a bit on the forum about it here

I would try and make time if you can because as I said its a great place and the people (The locals) are such a wonderful lot of people and so welcoming and genuine.

I can imagine. I have some friends coming over who would like to see the 'real Bulgaria' and this sounds ideal. Now theres a thought for a new thread !

Rose Festival and Festival of the Rose

Rose Festival in Kazanlak is the first in Bulgaria and has over 110 years of tradition. First Kazanlak in 1903 organized a celebration in honor of rose flowers and fertility, beauty and gratitude for the livelihood of the Rose Valley. Today the festival has preserved the most important part of ancient rituals, recreates the joy of coming picking and hospitality of the diligent Kazanlak.

Rose Festival takes place the first week of June, and custom on the first Friday is the official holiday of the town - the Day of the Republic, when the newly crowned Rose Queen and begin climactic three-day celebrations. Saturday and Sunday are days filled with festive events, such as the highlights are the official rituals picking and rose Sunday morning and colorful carnival of Kazanlak on Sunday at noon, which is the largest street carnival in Bulgaria.

In annual and decade tradition events in the Rose Festival in Kazanlak won more International Folklore Festival, competitions Mini Rose Queen and Miss Rose Valley, Photo planer of prominent photographers from Bulgaria and abroad, Street of crafts, Children's Song Contest , National dancing "Drum beats, dance is you," National Zumba marathon and many others.

Therefore, the traditional three-day Rose Festival in Kazanlak in recent decades has become lasting more than a month festival of talent, art and beauty with diverse cultural program for tourists, visitors and residents of the Republic of imposing its name already in the country and the world as a Festival Rose in Kazanlak.
