| Subject: Stray had 8 Pups Sun Oct 26, 2014 12:35 pm | |
| The village stray who we fed last year had 8 pups, her mum had 3 pups about a month before - We managed to find homes for those 3 pups but hvng no luck at all with the 8 pups - We tried to ignore their cries for food bu had to give in so we started to bring them bread soaked in warm milk and they lapped it up. Wrong thing to do really but they are only babies. They started to come out o the den and wonder down to us. Now we knew once them come out of the den they would be destroyed as the village cannot have 10 stray dogs so every day we were relieved to see them bouncing down the lane. Yesterday it was really cold and snow they were all huddled together in the box and some old clothes Dougie put in the den. Got their food ready this monting but when Dougie got to the den there were out of the box and in the hole , unfortunately all 6 were dead two are missing and mum is nowhere to be found. They obviously wanted their own home so came out of the warm box to go in the hole, probably expecting mum to sit over them. Still not seen the other two yet and i is 2.20 here. I fear they too have died. It is a dreadful shame but they had no chance at al really. I asked everyone and posted them on Facebook but nobody wanted them. I know sooner or later the would have been destroyed so I suppose it was a blessing they went now. Dougie is most upset he wanted to keep one but it would be so unfair on the dog, we would treat him as a pet but when we go back to UK what happens to him than, he would not be able to survive himself and we could not have him tied up in the garden waiting for someone to come and feed him. Bulgarians still think dogs live outside. I don't want to be in this position again so we have decided not to feed the stray any more, I know that sounds cruel but on of the neighbours said he would bring us 3 kittens I told him no we do not want animals he said you can feed them -So word got out we feed the strays. Now have to get the word out we do not want any animals... |

| Two of the pups survived the cold weather and one wondered down to us shivering and crying, poor little thing was frozen so what could we do but try to help her. We found some newspaper wrapped her in that, found a plastic box stuffed it with newspaper and an old jumper.. Fed little miss with some bread soaked in warm milk. She at most of it put in back in the newspaper loosly wrapped around her and put her in the box in the bushes and covered her with the clothes she was still crying and shivering so rolled up the sleve of the juper and put it beside her she would think i was another animal. She continued to cry but she was not moving out of that box. Left her for a while but crept back 15 mins later and she was fast asleep and as snug as a bug in a rug. This one is a surviver for sure. Next moring snow still around but she was still in her box we put some warm bread and milk down again she reached for it but was not coming out. She had her fill and settled back down again. Later that day another one of the pups waddled down the lane she too was frozen so she had hot food and we put her in the box too. Now both of them living in the box and they are doing really well. Findng their way around the mum does not bother with them at all Rosa their grandmother is sort of feeding them but I guess she knows we are feeding them so sh is no too bothered. We have no chance in rehomeiing 2 girls so I really don't know what will happen to them. We have stopped feeding Rosa and (Pup who is the mother of the 8 babies.) and they do not come down now. Dougie Buried the 6 dead pups way down the lane and for the first 3 days Rosa dug them up and brought them back to the live pups and they huggled up to the dead ones. Dougie buried them again but she did he same thing so don' know what that is all about. Maybe they are food for the live pups. This time he put them in a plastic bag and took them further up the hill, as yet she has not found them. The pups are getting very playful and come to the gate waiting for food, They have found a way in the garden so I have blocked that up now. Today we put the box back up the lane to where they were born and took some food up there, everytime they come down we shoo them back up, they need to stay up there if there is ny chance of anyone wantiing them - If they are down with us the people will think they belong to us. They are so cute and we would love to give them a home but it is too unfair on the pups, we go back to the UK they would not be able to look after themselves. I fear if they are not rehomed soon they are doomed one way or another. Poor litle mites, Nobody wants them |

| Good news the pups Jingle and Jangle have been taken to new homes now so we are delighed we are pup free - Just have to sort Rosa and Pup out now we don't want any more strays too stressful for me to deal wth.
Guess what!!! 3 FLIPPING CATS have come around now - Dougie has been warned NOT to feed them. They belong to a neighbour who visits weekends. I would have though Nipper would have seen them off, but he, Rosa and Pup appear to be scared of cats. I will not feed them maybe they will catch the mouse or rat Dougie saw at the bottom of the garden we also have a mole so maybe it was him that he saw. |

| So pleased for the pups and for you of course that they have been found a home. They both look lovely and very much look like our Chloe at that age. Unbeknown to us she was a tiny three week old Karakachan, a picture of her at 10 months is below.

| Thank you for the photo how cute Chole is. Itchy we are really please they are gone too, now we need to sort the mum and grandmother out before the come into season again Can't be doing with that again. We have stopped feeding them and fed the pups instead so we have not seen anything of them - The mum did not bother to feed the pups and the grandmother brought them food but would not let the have, she ate it whilst they watched. I don't know what that was about unless it was teaching them survival skills. Anyway they are gone now and we see to have 3 cats for the past few days - but we are no feediing them - No sign of them today yet |
