Car Insurance Empty
PostSubject: Car Insurance   Car Insurance Icon_minitimeSun Sep 01, 2013 11:24 am

We are looking to move to Bulgaria in a couple of months have have just purchased a more suitable vehicle.. my Toyota Celica being too delicate for the roads. But what do I do about insurance, a years insurance would be a wasted expense but then monthly insurance would work out almost as much for two months as a years insurance. Are there other options?

I am guessing once in Bulgaria we would get the car registered bg and insure there, it is just the insurance for now and to get there that is the issue.

Anyone faced simular and found a good solution?

contact your insurance company and ask if they do a VIN insurance. This is on the vehicle not on the registration document.
Don't believe it will be any cheaper to be honest.
If you are in the UK adrian flux do a VIN insurance but again i don't think this is going to be a cheaper option.
It is essential to do the vehicle registration as soon as you get here to be honest. Get your litchna carter first at the emigration dept at the police station and then visit KAT all this can be done in a few weeks therefor we think that monthly insurance for your vehicle is the best way to go and then as soon as you have been to KAT you can cancell your monthly insurance but it will incure a cancellation charge so ask all those questions when you find out about insurance.
good luck with every thing. Unfortunately there will be things you pay out for now where you will loose money tax on your car is another one of those loses but the good news is that it is so much cheaper here that the cost is are recovered quickly

Just a note to make Vinette has to be purchased as soon as you cross the boarder of BG and Romania and Hungary if you are coming that way so your road tax is usless in those countries and a few others like switsland.

As soon as you have been to Kat to register your car go to the municipality office and pay your tax there and that is payable each year along with house tax

If you are bringing a caravan with you make sure it has a log book old caravans don't have these and with out them you can't register your caravan here or trailor and it becomes a garden ornament.
Hope we have been of some help any questions and we will all ways try to help Car Insurance 1430720830

I assume the existing insurance runs out before the move to BG! If not just transfer the insurance to the new vehicle and get the insurance here when you come over.

We did what you have done and swapped a Corolla and my Yaris (sob) for a 4x4. When we transferred the insurance over we asked about insurance abroad and were told we had 90 days after arrival, then it would be invalid, so cancelled the premiums then. We are now re-registered and insured here, much cheaper than the UK. So it might be worth asking your insurer if they will cover you for a bit after arrival, and then you can give notice and there should not be a cancellation fee unless you changed your insurance company when you changed your car.

Worth a phone call. We were stopped just once on the drive over and insurance was all they wanted to see.

Good points, my celica has insurance till december so I will keep the new car uninsured parked at work until I get the celica sold then transfer the insurance. With admiral and they give 90 days a year european cover, maximum 30 day continious so this should be Ok as long as we get the car insured in bg before the insurance runs out. T

Very good points made by Mrs Eq..as long as you have valid insurance when you arrive here, you can pretty much stretch everything else until you are settled.

You can get caught with an expired MOT and get a warning..get caught with no insurance or a valid vignette (road tax) and the story will be much different!! Also, don't forget that you are going be driving through other countries on your way over here and some of them are real sticklers for documentation.

I think that you would be better off buying a truck and I will tell you why. My friend has a BMW and the Danet tax which is another form of road tax that you puchase every year like the Vignette is much cheaper for a truck compared with a car. My friends BMW is 250. My friends BMW costs for the Danet tax 250lv a year and my truck is 37lv a year don't ask me why it just is.Also you must register your vehicle once on Bulgarian plates with your local Municipality office or you will have a 100lv fine if you don't do this within 3 weeks of taking it through the KAT inspection and the same goes with your house registration excuding the KAt inspection of course.
