More than 20 customs officers arrested for bribery in Bulgaria’s Varna

Varna. More than 20 customs officers from the Varna-West customs office in the coastal city of Varna have been arrested in a special operation of the General Directorate for Fight against the Organised Crime (GDBOP). The Bulgarian Interior Ministry confirmed the news for FOCUS News Agency.
“An investigation is underway over an organised crime group comprised of officials – customs officers from Varna Customs Office. The investigation is for corruption activities,” Rumyana Arnaudova, spokesperson of the Prosecutor General, announced for FOCUS.
Ms Arnaudova explained that the matter in point concerns asking and receiving bribes.
“Active investigation procedures are underway under the management of the Specialised Prosecutor’s Office. They started on January 12. The interrogations continue at the moment,” the spokesperson of the Prosecutor General added.
