First topic message reminder :

I've been reading quite a lot about the welfare reforms going in in the uk and how sick people are being sent for a medical to prove that they are not fit for work? but it looks like no matter how ill you are even if your own Gp says you can not work once you have been to a medical with a company called Atos healthcare which is the company the Dwp use almost all are found to be fit for work even those who are obviously not. I have done a bit of reading about this and there has even been deaths shortly after this company Atos have said the person is fit for work. Now although this does not effect me I know that there are people in Bg who are claiming incapacity benefit legally and wondered how they will feel if they have to go for a medical and are found fit for work even though they may not be? below is a story of 1 of the many that have been found fit for work. From what I can gather although these people who are sick go fo a medical with Atos it's actually a computer program that decides if they are fit oir not? I have also read that thios new system has been condemned by 99% of Gp's in the uk and all of the charities like Cancer research have called for it to be stopped immediately. I have also read that this multi billion pound company Atos will be taking over that administration of the Dwp in the future which will put quite a few out of work because they think they can reduce costs by 28%. Just key in Atos in Google and you will be surprised at how many sites there are in opposition.

Atos Disability Benefits Row: Epileptic Colin Traynor's Death Blamed On Stress Of Being Found 'Fit For Work

The parents of a man who suffered from epilepsy and died after being stripped of his benefits have blamed his death on the stress of being found 'fit for work'.

Colin Traynor, 29, was marked as being able to work as part of the government's overhaul of the welfare system.

He appealed against the decision but died before finding out the result which was ultimately successful.

His family learned the appeal verdict five weeks after his death in April.

Mr Traynor's father Ray said: "
I firmly believe - 100% believe - that the system this government introduced has killed my son."

Mr Traynor told Channel Four News the appeal process should have been carried out more quickly, which would have eased his son's stress.

He criticised the bureaucracy which he believed led to delays in hearing the appeal.

"
I don't want some government minister telling me what he can do, some penpusher in London - they don't even know my son, they've no idea whatsoever,"
said Mr Traynor, from Oldham, Greater Manchester.

"
You've got to change the system we've got today. You've got to stop other people going through this.

"
The assessment is wrong. There are other people like my son out there with different illnesses, and they are going through the same (thing).

"
People are dying."

The original work capability assessment was carried out by the French firm Atos, which has sparked anger with some of its controversial decisions to judge people fit for employment.

But ministers believe the new system is fairer in deciding what sort of work claimants can perform.

A Department for Work and Pensions spokeswoman said: "
A decision on whether someone is well enough to work is taken following a thorough face-to-face assessment and after consideration of all the supporting medical evidence from the claimant's GP or medical specialist.

"
We encourage people to provide as much medical evidence as possible when they apply for Employment Support Allowance, and often people who are found fit for work only provide the necessary evidence when they ask for a reconsideration or an appeal.

"
Since 2010 we have considerably improved the work capability assessment process, giving people a more tailored and personal service."

In a statement, Atos said: "
Our trained doctors, nurses and physiotherapists strictly follow the guidelines given to them by the Government when conducting assessments and make no decisions on a person's eligibility for benefits."

I think it may have already started Lisa

Benefits admin is to be devolved to Wales

THE funding, administration and management of benefits within Wales will be devolved to the Welsh Government from April.

Changes in the Welfare Reform Act 2012 mean that certain elements of the Social Fund scheme, currently run by the Department for Work and Pensions, will be abolished and replaced by a new local provider.

This contract has been awarded to Northgate Public Services, who will deliver the Welsh Social Fund for two years.

Funding for the programme is estimated to be around £10 million per year for two years. The Welsh Social Fund will be entirely grant based and will look to address the wider needs of applicants, particularly those who are vulnerable and financially excluded.

My mum, 84, had quite a bad accident a couple of years ago. She fell down her stairs and broke her pelvis, shoulder and her wrist was smashed.
Luckily she is a tough old bird and made a good recovery!
She finds it difficult to walk far and cannot use a stick because of pressure on her shoulder and wrist.
She applied for and received her blue badge for her car, or anyone else's as the card is for her and not the car. (If you know what I mean!)
When I was over in July this year, she asked me to help fill in a form for its replacement this month. This was done, and we assumed it would automatically be renewed. No! She got a phone call and was told she had to attend an assessment centre for a review. Fair enough, but the centre was two bus rides away in a pretty rough part of the city. She was a bit wary of driving, and asked if she really had to attend. She was told that if she didn't, her card would automatically be refused! So off she went yesterday, accompanied by a friend. It was pouring down with rain and very windy. When she saw the assessor she was asked loads of questions, all of which had been answered on the form already.
Then she was told to go outside and walk round a small course that was set up to see how far people can walk, and how long it takes them. In the pouring rain!! She was offered an umbrella, but that would have unbalanced her. So off she went and did it, slowly. When she got back in she was told there would be no problem getting her card, it would arrive in the post.
Now I know that there have to be assessments as the system is abused, but to treat an old lady like this is ridiculous. Her own GP had even phoned the centre to vouch for her, but this wasn't good enough.
It just made me so angry when she told me. Making her walk in the rain really takes the biscuit! :m4:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]…..care-homes

Pensioners are being sent to care homes in eastern Europe and Asia in an austerity move dismissed as 'inhumane deportation'

Growing numbers of elderly and sick Germans are being sent overseas for long-term care in retirement and rehabilitation centers because of rising costs and falling standards in Germany.

The move, which has seen thousands of retired Germans rehoused in homes in eastern Europe and Asia, has been severely criticized by social welfare organizations who have called it "
inhumane deportation"
.

But with increasing numbers of Germans unable to afford the growing costs of retirement homes, and an aging and shrinking population, the number expected to be sent abroad in the next few years is only likely to rise. Experts describe it as a "
time bomb"
.

Germany's chronic care crisis – the care industry suffers from lack of workers and soaring costs – has for years been mitigated by eastern Europeans migrating to Germany in growing numbers to care for the country's elderly.

But the transfer of old people to eastern Europe is being seen as a new and desperate departure, indicating that even with imported, cheaper workers, the system is unworkable.

Germany has one of the fastest-ageing populations in the world, and the movement here has implications for other western countries, including Britain, particularly amid fears that austerity measures and rising care costs are potentially undermining standards of residential care.

The Sozialverband Deutschland (VdK), a German socio-political advisory group, said the fact that growing numbers of Germans were unable to afford the costs of a retirement home in their own country sent a huge "
alarm signal"
. It has called for political intervention.

"
We simply cannot let those people who built Germany up to be what it is, who put their backbones into it all their lives, be deported,"
said VdK's president, Ulrike Mascher. "
It is inhumane."

Researchers found an estimated 7,146 German pensioners living in retirement homes in Hungary in 2011. More than 3,000 had been sent to homes in the Czech Republic, and there were more than 600 in Slovakia. There are also unknown numbers in Spain, Greece and Ukraine. Thailand and the Philippines are also attracting increasing numbers.

The Guardian spoke to retired Germans and people needing long-term care living in homes in Hungary, Thailand and Greece, some of whom said that they were there out of choice, because the costs were lower – on average between a third and two-thirds of the price in Germany – and because of what they perceived as better standards of care.

But others were evidently there reluctantly.

The Guardian also found a variety of healthcare providers were in the process of building or just about to open homes overseas dedicated to the care of elderly Germans in what is clearly perceived in the industry to be a growing and highly profitable market.

According to Germany's federal bureau of statistics, more than 400,000 senior citizens are currently unable to afford a German retirement home, a figure that is growing by around 5% a year.

The reasons are rising care home costs – which average between €2,900 and €3,400 (£2,700) a month, stagnating pensions, and the fact that people are more likely to need care as they get older.

As a result, the Krankenkassen or statutory insurers that make up Germany's state insurance system are openly discussing how to make care in foreign retirement homes into a long-term workable financial model.

In Asia, and eastern and southern Europe, care workers' pay and other expenses such as laundry, maintenance and not least land and building costs, are often much lower.

Today, European Union law prevents state insurers from signing contracts directly with overseas homes, but that is likely to change as legislators are forced to find ways to respond to Europe's ageing population.

The lack of legislation has not stopped retired people or their families from opting for foreign homes if their pensions could cover the costs.

But critics of the move have voiced particular worries about patients with dementia, amid concern that they are being sent abroad on the basis that they will not know the difference.

Sabine Jansen, head of Germany's Alzheimer Society, said that surroundings and language were often of paramount importance to those with dementia looking to cling to their identity.

"
In particular, people with dementia can find it difficult to orientate themselves in a wholly other culture with a completely different language, because they're very much living in an old world consisting of their earlier memories,"
she said.

With Germany's population expected to shrink from almost 82 million to about 69 million by 2050, one in every 15 – about 4.7 million people – are expected to be in need of care, meaning the problem of provision is only likely to worsen.

Willi Zylajew, an MP with the conservative Christian Democrats and a care service specialist, said it would be increasingly necessary to consider foreign care.

"
Considering the imminent crisis, it would be judicious to at least start thinking about alternative forms of care for the elderly,"
he said.

Christel Bienstein, a nursing scientist from the University of Witten/Herdecke, said many German care homes had reached breaking point due to lack of staff, and that care standards had dropped as a result.

"
On average each patient is given only around 53 minutes of individual care every day, including feeding them,"
she said. "
Often there are 40 to 60 residents being looked after by just one carer."

Artur Frank, the owner of Senior Palace, which finds care homes for Germans in Slovakia, said that was why it was wrong to suggest senior citizens were being "
deported"
abroad, as the VdK described it.

"
They are not being deported or expelled,"
he said. "
Many are here of their own free will, and these are the results of sensible decisions by their families who know they will be better off."

He said he had seen "
plenty of examples of bad care"
in German homes among the 50 pensioners for whom he had already found homes in Slovakia.

"
There was one woman who had hardly been given anything to eat or drink, and in Slovakia they had to teach her how to swallow again,"
he said.

German politicians have shied away from dealing with the subject, largely due to fears of a voter backlash if Germany's state insurers are seen to be financing care workers abroad to the detriment of the domestic care industry.

Thats it now. Germany has put ideas in David Camerons head! He will be sending our pensioners to far away countries to be looked after. UK disabled dying - Page 2 794030042

It's not very often that I write from my heart but this subject is very close to me because I have 4 friends that are very disabled who this new law/fiasco is effecting so I thought I would add an update to this thread which I feel is very important to those of us who care about the less fortunate. I have just been told that [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is now being sponsored by Atos the company who are making the lives of the disabled hell!! which I think is totally unacceptable considering the site was originally set up to help people I find this completely sickening and I for one will do all I can to let others know that [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is a site that can no longer be trusted, its amazing how Martin set up this site to help other but as soon as he gets TV coverage it goes to his head and his moral go to to gutter. Have a look on this site and you can clearly see what I mean [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ... ommunities

I also done some digging myself and found this which proves that they are all cosy together.

I found this which is very interesting and shows a possible connection between this forum and Atos?

I think this is a terrible situation and I'm sure not many people will have worked all this out. With all the millions he has made out of so called helping others why does he now pal up with this company and destroy the lives of so many. I have found a little about what is going on and here is what he's been up to.

Money Saving Expert 'sellout': Backlash on internet as consumer champion sells the website he started with just £100 to price comparison giant for £87m

Martin Lewis created the website for just £100 nine years ago
He will receive £60million in cash and shares plus a further £27million if targets are met under deal agreed with Moneysupermarket
The consumer expert will remain editor-in-chief of the website for the next three years

It's obvious when you think about it he has only been lining his own pockets. s

The average person on the street fueled by the written media believes that the 'real disabled' should be given the money but hates with a passion the (over-exaggerated) number of fraudsters. This results in a system being invented which spends far more money looking for an insignificant number of fraudsters than it does looking after the generally disabled.

Disabled people are currently being basically tortured through both continual testing (even for things which are easy to diagnose and impossible to recover from) and the constant threat of destitution.However no money is saved because its all spent on getting rid of the incredibly rare cases of fraud. People need to understand that catching a fraudster cheating 10,000 of the system is not worth spending 100,000, especially if that money could goto those who really need it. Actually, the DWP's own estimates say that over claiming is minuscule - less than underpayments and less than accidental overpayment's. And they're the people who've got the most reason to massage the figures to make it looks like loads has been over claimed. Lets not forget this is a COALITION Govn and not a Conservative one;
lets make sure we lay the blame squarely on the shoulders of all those involved. Both parties should hang their heads in shame I would like to ask Nick Clegg how all of the problems with this Welfare Reform fit with the Lib Dem promise "
we will ensure that our laws reflect that diversity, protecting all from violence, discrimination and harassment and allowing everyone the freedom to live their lives"

3000 died on 911 - and supposedly 'the world changed' and we went to war, and spent all that blood and treasure. Yet here are the Tories killing the same number - more! - and nothing happens. Or rather, ATOS get millions. I must say that it certainly helps to see the outrage and empathy in the comments. It's worth far more than anything coming from the privileged whom spout about "
The Big Society"
. And what a joke that phrase is - it doesn't mean a thing. If cutting benefit is the reason, and surely it is, then cut the benefit - but don't force people through this trauma as a way of hiding cuts. For some of us the worst part is not losing some money, though that's serious enough how can one live on £60-£70 a week?] but rather it's the compulsion to obtain work or face further sanction such as removal of all entitlements if it is deemed you are not 'doing enough' to obtain work.

These people are psychopaths, we really need a revolution of sorts. Things have just gone too far now. IDS is trying to destroy the country as retribution for getting pumped when he ran for PM, he is the most despicable man in over a century and bizarrely;
in spite of his devout "
catholicism"
, it's obvious he's never read a word of what Jesus supposedly said. UK disabled dying - Page 2 739492727
