| Black about half an inch long and hop like a grass hopper. We have had two in our house. I do not like the look of them, they also have what looks like pincers on the rear end. Both are now dead with the Raid spray. Do you know what they are? : : |

| Some sort of beetle perhaps? There are a lot of them about! The house centipedes are on the march now too. Ugh! Pass me the raid. :A1: |

| no idea what they are possibly just a variety of grasshopper, but their numbers will increase as it heats up, i usually have loads in the summer, but despite the pincers they are harmless. |

| I wonder if its those things we get in the summer they are black to and jump, I don't like them at all and if its exceptionally hot we get loads the locals don't seem to mind them and the chickens love them dead or alive but I don't know what they are, they usually come out at night. |

| We stayed at a hotel a few years back where these things covered a wall so in effect a white wall was black.
We have a Ultra Violet light for killing them but when they get trapped and are burnt they stink something rotten :Cry3: |

| This one is a nasty b****r and people will need hospital treatment if one bites.
The litter picker is available Kaufland costing 2 Lev on special offer do not attempt to stand on them in bare feet or think they are dead when cut in half, they act like a worm. They die when sprayed with raid. Do NOT pick up with bare hands.

The local toxicology has already registered several cases of bites. Skolopendri sinister love dark, moist places and in adulthood can reach 20 centimetres in length. Their bite is very similar to the snake - and the type and intensity of pain. The venom is not lethal but leads to severe swelling, fainting, and occurs in children dramatically and often secondary infections. The most urgent measure in the bite - cold compress and medical assistance. Skolopendrite plague all families living in the area. People have decided to seek help from the municipality and health services, because they themselves can not cope with poisonous centipedes. |

Tony I Just got a reply from Dr Pavel Stoev, zoologist, curator of non-insect invertebrates collections. Hi Ashley, ldentification of centipedes on photos is rather difficult. If these photos were taken in bulgaria than the species is §colopendra cingulata. Bites could be paintfull but cannot cause serios health problems unless person has alergies to insect stings in general. Hope this info would be of any help. Best wishes Pavel |
