[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Only if you are stupid enough to disobey the signs or instructions. After watching lots of footage on the local news involving vehicles stuck in the snow, I am amazed to note that very, very few have snowchains fitted. |

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] No Willow...not drastic at all...some roads have been hell over here lately and for genuine accidents and car stuck help will be minimised if the services are out to the ones that ignore the road warnings / bans a lot of people have been rescued from cars and many stuck out all night who have been caught in blizzards , its they that need the services..not the idiots that think they know better |

| We've had no more snow for a couple of days or so, but the temps have remained very low. Yesterday morning, at about 6am, it was down around minus 19 degrees and it very slowly rose to a maximum of minus 1 during the day. Today wasn't much better although the early morning temp was a bit higher...around the minus 10 mark, with the maximum temp actually getting up to 2 degrees! Driving in our street is like ice skating...if you can manage to get your car out of the parking space. Chopping frozen snow which is about a metre deep, is really good exercise! We are warm and snug indoors (thanks to the Govt central heating system), but the trips across the street to the supermarket are a bit of an adventure! The hardest thing to deal with here is strange school system (especially at this time of the year)...my daughter leaves for school at 7am (in the dark) and comes home at 2pm. Next month, she leaves for school at midday and comes home at 7.30pm (in the dark). Doesn't sound so bad really....until you consider that the busses don't always run, especially in bad weather...a 5km walk, in the dark, in a snow storm, isn't a a really good option.... and I'm talking about the middle of a very large city (by Bulgarian standards). The kids in the village where I have my farm have not been to school since Xmas because there has been no bus service for them! Rural roads and access to small villages are at the bottom of the list....a small garden tractor wirh a home made blade is not really a great solution to the problem. |

| Yes indeed feeling the cold now. I see now why so many villagers drink, there is nothing else to do in the winter clear a path to the wood shed to the animals and back. Our village shop opens 9am Tues, Thur and Sat for 2 hours if they did not get to the shop there would be no socialising. The novelty of living here in winter is wearing off now, what with the snow, no electricty, blocked off I have been experiencing some chest pains the last few days, thankfully it does not seem to be anything, but it has got me thinking what if!! So will have to think carefully about next year. If you are in a town things would be much better I must say this 7.30pm finish school in winter is really not a good idea at all, in fact I would say it is very stupid indeed for children to be out in this kind of weather in the day let alone at night. I did not realise the school times changed. Must be a nightmare for every parent and especially those who rely on buses. I would be climbing the walls |

| OK, thanks for that. Just had a call from our lad in Sofia and he says they saw a light fall a couple of hours ago. It's 8 degrees here, overcast and light breeze...hope it doesn't snow! |
