Hi LisA

Yes. Downloading from any torrent site is illegal.

Actually, it's not the download itself that's illegal (even though the content probably copyright protected), it's the fact that whilst 'streaming' a torrent, your computer becomes a part of a large network and is 'uploading' data at the same time as downloading.

Technically, it's the 'uploading' that could land you in court with a hefty fine.

Having said that, I normally get shot down in flames with the commonplace excuse that 'everybody does it and nobody ever gets caught'.

Cheers
Chris

Thanks for that Chris I will take your advice. However I am now shoccked because|I found it on the site the is owned by the same person who runs Berni's site 'Bill' lets make it cleare its not Berni's site. I've posted the information from the Toshevo Tribune site here .

btjunkie - the largest bittorrent search engine

(straight forward search and download)

ATDHE.Net - Watch Free Live Sports TV

(may require download and install of browser players)

Streamick.com - Watch TV online free TV broadcast directory

(some limitations but basically click and view)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

(search and download by programmes or general search)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

(fairly simple interface, and in some cases DIV X player needed)

A word of caution, some of the torrent download sites do contain adult material, and you may have to download and install plug ins, or players, if you are unsure of anything do not download.

if you have any recomendations suggestions please forward for publication

I always thought it was legal to download as well? infact I'm sure I read somewhere recently where young man was being sent to the USA for a court appearance for pointing people in the direction of these sites let alone downloading.

It's really one and the same bigsavak, you can't download without uploading at the same time!

Its a shock indeed but lets not let this reflect on the good work that Berni puts her heart and soul into. I would have thought Bill would know better than to be involved with piracy because thats what it is and its because of these sites that so many artists etc lose so much revenue and in some cases with software companies end up folding. btjunkie 2581928987

Your right BS I also read the same article which I am posting here. At the end of the day there are a lot of people doing this but maybe not so blatantly as Bill, He might not know the consequences of what he is doing and I know that isn't any excuse in law but from what I know of him and he's getting on a bit I think its just ignorance on his part?

STUDENT Richard O'Dwyer can be extradited to the US over copyright infringement allegations related to his web site TV Shack, a UK court has ruled.

O'Dwyer created the TV Shack web site and is the subject of an order for his extradition to the US, much like Gary McKinnon.

He is accused of copyright infringement after setting up the web site TV Shack, which had links to thousands of films and TV shows but did not directly host them. If extradited to the US and convicted of criminal copyright infringement, he could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.

Woah ... think we ought to stop for a moment.

Remember Bill did not build the 'btjunkie' web site, nor is he involved in any kind of illegal downloading, uploading or piracy.

He simply put a link to the above site, on his own web site, and to let people know (in his own words):
"
some places which my be of interest to you"

It's up to each individual to take responsibility for what they download.

If you accept the risk, then do it. If you don't, then don't. Simple.

But I don't think having a go at Bill is appropriate as he's not actually involved in any piracy of any kind (simply pointing out a few places where those people that do download and accept the risks can get stuff)

Good reply Chris but does this mean you as a mod on this forum would allow others to post torrent site links, I'm only asking because I know this subject has been raised before and if memory serves me right links were not allowed because it would make the forum look as though we were encouraging the use of torrent sites and thus piracy. Its only a question not a pop at you or anyone else.

To those discussing this. We as a forum do not and will not encourage the use of torrent sites or any similar illegal sharing site of this nature. the law is quite simple on this matter and we will not infringe it.

Personally, I would delete any link to anything that I thought had unsuitable content (illegal content, p0rnography, cheap viagra, etc.).

Please remember that us Mods (and even Admin) are only human! What one of us may consider appropriate, another may not.

Seriously though. If any of the Mods or Admin see a topic / post / link, that they think is not right, we all discuss this in private and take a decision based on that discussion (with Ashley having the final say of course).

Having stumbled across this discussion and saw reference to myself I would like to respond. The Tribune site was set up to provide local information for ex pats in our area, As Chris quite rightly states I did not build the btjunkie site. An I am in know way encouraging anyone to download anything, It's up to each individual to take responsibility for what they download
However it makes some of you feel any better I have removed that information from the Tribune and will replace it with an explanation as to why, probably along the same lines as I do not promote Facebook,Twitter etc but do not get me started on that one btjunkie 2334215883
