Speed Dating in Sofia Now Available for English-Speaking Expats
World-famous "
speed dating"
is now available for English-speaking expats in Bulgaria's capital Sofia, announced Speed Dating 3, the Bulgarian organization setting up the respective events.
"
If you have lived in a big city while being single, you are acquainted with the idea of Speed Dating. If not, you have most probably seen it on TV: "
Sex and The City"
, "
Hutch"
and "
House M.D."
are some of the popular titles which show this dating adventure,"
SpeedDating3 told Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency) and Novinite.bg.
Speed dating events were first organized in Sofia in November 2010. Since then the organizers - a social club for singles – have made held them regularly, and say they are now eager to offer something new to its members by reaching out to the expat community in the Bulgarian capital.
Speed dating was first introduced in 1998 in the USA, the Bulgarian organization points out, adding that since then its popularity has been growing in terms of participants and "
geographic coverage"
.
"
Speed Dating events are now organized in big cities in Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia. 10 men and 10 women gather together in a bar or club. In the course of the event you have a short (3, 5 or 8 minute) date with each person from the opposite sex. After each round you write down on a special card if you want to meet that person again or not. When the event is over the hosts gather all the cards and later on exchange contacts where there is mutual willingness for a second date,"
explained the members of Speed Dating 3.
They emphasized the "
enormous success of the format is due to 3 things: you meet 10 new people in person;
your preferences are not based on a long list of criteria but on your first impressions and emotions;
it's fun and social – much better than a traditional date."
The advantages of Speed Dating events are now used for numerous purposes: business networking (called Speed Networking);
entrepreneurs pitching ideas in front of investors;
matching between families and baby-sitters;
get-to-know games for freshmen in universities and so on, the organizers add.
This fall the enthusiasts from Speed Dating 3 will offer such an event for English-speaking people in Sofia.
The English-language speed dating will be available for both expats and Bulgarians with fluent English, the next available event being on November 23, 2011, at Club Tiffany in Sofia, as listed on SpeedDating3.com, the organization's website.
