Bulgaria's most popular Black Sea resorts.
In the latest incident to have marred Bulgaria’s peak summer tourism season, a woman was admitted to hospital after being hit by a motorboat while swimming at the popular Black Sea resort of Slunchev Bryag (Sunny Beach).
The incident, on July 14 2011, happened while the woman was swimming about 300 metres offshore, bTV said.
On July 12, in a tragedy that has dominated headlines in Bulgaria and in Germany, a 13-year-old German tourist died at a hotel in Varna after being sucked into an unguarded swimming pool filter system.
After the fatal incident, Varna municipality ordered the setting up of an interdepartmental committee to see how to ensure the safety of pool users at hotels and resorts.
The previous weekend a 33-year-old woman got serious head injuries when two speedboats collided in Iskar lake.
In recent days, a jetski caught fire at Golden Sands, but no one was injured.
The Maritime Administration has been inspecting tourist boats and jetskis for hire, checking documentation and equipment.
A boat owner told bTV that it was unlikely that a dangerous vessel would be able to be put to sea because the control tower had a clear view, and said that the problem mainly was with jet skis. The administration said that the most common problems found were expired signal flares and faulty lifejackets
