Europe day May 9, 2011

Today, 19.00 with a gala concert to mark Europe Day - the most important holiday in the life of the European Union. The concert is under the patronage of Mr. Pavel Dimitrov - MP from Varna in the 41 th National Assembly of Bulgaria. In this special musical event will attend the entire stock of TMPTS-Varna State Opera orchestra, choir, ballet and soloists, conducted by Ivan Filev.

Writer and director Kuzman Popov took care to renew the public stage a dynamic vision, with elegant scenery, spectacular costumes and best-loved works of the great European composers Beethoven, Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and others.

by Puccini, Kavatina of Figaro and the duet of Rosina and Figaro in "

by Rossini, Habanera, Gypsy songs and verses of Escamillo in the opera "
Carmen"
by Bizet and others. Culmination end will come with "
Ode to Joy"
from the famous Ninth Symphony of Beethoven, which became the anthem of the European Union.

I think May 9 coincides with Victory Day, the end of World War II. It's celebrated on 8 May in Western Europe and on May 9 in Russia and many of the former Soviet Union states. please correct me if I'm wrong?

may 9th in Bg is VE day....as in may 8th uk.....I think if I remember correctly, reading that the different date is because of the time difference in east and west europe from the time it was signed

The difference is due to a leak to the press back in 1945.All countries had decided on the 9th but it was leaked in the UK so Churchill had to go with it as the masses were celebrating.
