I know I've mentioned it once before but thought I'd mention it again as
it's relevant. I once worked somewhere where our building and all the others
in a small square date back to about the 17th century and a lot of them
have marks on their walls to establish that they were insured, i.e. it was the
17th century equivalent of an insurance certificate.
If you didn't have this mark on the outside of the building and a fire
broke out then the firefighters would just stand and watch and let the
building burn down.
