now that the weather is improving i can now get out and pay some bills. went this morning to pay my 6 month water bill and what a shock 2, 250 levs, only 2 thousand more than usual. :Hair:

the water board are coming out tomorrow to check meter and previous bills which show 5 years of consistent level of bills.
i phoned my interpreter and she has told me not to sign anything when they come and to let her know the outcome.

you do have to be careful with water readings, three people have read this reading and three people have different figures. 1,7......1,8 and 1.9 that is a massive difference, easy to get wrong. so will wait and see.

I know how you feel to I was waiting in some time a go for the electric people to come but they didn't turn up so I left it a couple of days and went into the office to ask why? they told me that they were at my house waiting for me and if I didn't get back before they left I would be charged. So I got back as quickly as I could and no one was there and they still haven't been out and this is 2 months now so don't worry starlite and oldun there maybe still time

well, im still no wiser as to how much my water bill is, i always take a photo of my meter so there is less chance of a reading error, as no one has bothered to call to check this reading, i think an authoritive phone call (not by me) will result in action. They probably won't come out because our 'waterman' asked us to estimate our usage in winter as he doesn't read meters due to weather. They could tell you this Starlite. That's another frustration of living in Bulgaria. Our washing machine finally froze so its disconnected and we have used it once piping the water into bowls and emptying outside which meant de-icing the outside drain. Have to admit that this winter might be breaking point for me. Its only down to my hero that I'm still here. He wasn't supposed to do any work on discharge from hospital but has been outside chopping wood as if nothing had happened. I hope he will be okay. Can't stop him.
Bulgarians have an answer for everything and my love affair seems to have maybe run its course.
Sorry folks - having a very bad day for no particular reason except reading Starlite's post seem to encapsulate difficulties of living here and I am too old to bother any more. Maybe I won't live and die here after all though I have no idea what the alternatives are because it will be hard to leave my home here. However, there are always choices in life its just hard to make them sometimes.
Having the concern of the villagers (who have no power to do anything for us anyway) is not enough anymore. Might feel differently when the sun finally stays out and not just put in an appearance for a day.

cheer up oldun, we all get like that where ever we are, just being abroad sometimes your expectations are not met as you would like them to be. we are through the worst, there is no speed in bulgaria but you get there in the end.
spring is coming, best part of the year for planning the garden, growing the veg and enjoying what bulgaria really has to offer and at its best i dont think anything surpasses it.

This has been one hell of a year. What with Brits conspiring to break my lovely man's leg, a poison pen letter, a brush with death for my hero and now this long winter (the worst for 60 years I've been told) the love and help from our village community might not be enough. We'll have to see.
On top of that, I am missing family and people who know and understand me and who I can speak fluently to. I really don't think that speaking more Bulgarian would help the mood I'm in because I can't expect the locals to understand when their lives are so different and they have no knowledge whatsoever of life elsewhere.
Nice of you to try to cheer me up Starlite. I am feeling a little better after a shower and the sun coming out although its gone in again now! Hopefully we can reconnect the washing machine this afternoon.

Thanks Starlite - its nice to know someone is out there and cares a little. I think that's part of the problem, I am feeling very isolated even though I know I'm not alone really. It does help to write but probably others are suffering in silence.

I think your right oldun but that's what's good about this forum you can write how you feel and no one is going to ridicule you. I'm sure we all fell like you do from time to time and at this time of year when its cold and perhaps a little dull then it also makes us all feel dull to but spring is around the corner and I'm sure we will all have big smile back again.
