| First topic message reminder :Copied and pasted from another forum I have just received this inPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 11:44 am Post subject: Intersure -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, I have just received my renewal notice from Intasure, due this month. They have informed me that they will not be renewing my policy, as they can no longer [size=150:11xofz3d] insure ex-pats in Bulgaria.Willowsend writes from experience and information taken from their small print (rules, regulations and contract) If INTASURE are not going to re-new your policy they must adhere to a material fact of giving you 28 day's notice and that must be delivered by registered mail or recorded delivery On a personal note, as most of you will know we had our villa completely gutted, and they have not paid us even the cost of a postage stamp I wonder why they have published that they will not insure ex-pats in Bulgaria anymore, I think the answer must have somthing to do with fraud, criminals and organised crime within the country I am now insured with a Bulgarian Company from Sofia. Their agent came to the villa , did a complete inventory, took photos and serial numbers of all moveable goods, ie TV, fridge, cooker microwave etc etc. and it cost much the same as Intasure. Please pm me if you would like any more information |

| I haven't used them but a friend of mine has and this is what he wrote.
It’s an unfortunate fact that you only really find out the worth of an insurance policy when you have to make a claim and even more unfortunate for a number of my clients who have been insured with Intasure People often have no idea how bureaucratic the Spanish legal system if you are the victim of crime, typically a burglary, with all of the forms and declarations required, so having a property manager that will sort this all out for you, without you having to worry or travel to Spain Just going to the Police to make the declaration, the first stage, which is required by the insurance company before they will except the claim, can be time consuming, then the property needs to be made safe, photographs done, an inventory, the insurance assessor has to visit and then the various visits required by the repairers takes hours spread over several weeks and of course it is normal for the company in Spain to charge for this, not thousands of euro, just an hourly rate based on the time taken, so typically a few hundred euro In the past we have dealt with numerous claims and the normal process has been that the insurance company pays these fees, to the person who is the victim of crime, so can you imagine who appalled I was to be told today that Intasure’s policy is not to pay these fees, fees to management companies as they describe it I rang them myself for clarification because with every other company there had never been a problem and the reaction from their claims manager at Intasure was total disinterested. He commented.... the policy clearly states what we will pay and as this is the client’s property tough luck, yes we have to have the declaration and get access to repair and if the client has to pay to arrange tough, it is down to the customer, their whole attitude was take it or leave it because we are really not bothered I then called 7 different Spanish insurers and every one confirmed that for their policies they would pay, subject to the cost being reasonable, the costs for somebody processing the claim in Spain, I already knew this based on other claims that we had assisted with. Ask the question of your insurer or broker before it is too late |

| The following is the letter I sent to the Ombudsman's office and one of his reply
Dear Mr Gelin I refer to my previous correspondence to you, and I repeat that I consider that you have not taken both sides of this complaint as a neutral and have been in favour of Intasure I have admitted that I did not inform Intasure of a change of circumstances. I did not do that deliberately, Why would I, if I knew that it would jeopardise any potential pay out and future cover, it did not and still does not make any logical sense, so what you have said in your findings and conclusions I pay the price for following my lawyers professional advice and legal guidance (see attachment) As I said before and I refer to again the two words you picked up on, namely Impression and believed. I feel very strongly that you have chosen to ignore the fact that two female members of Intasure staff gave me the IMPRESSION that I would probably get an interim payment and also that Biser Diveri (loss adjuster) BELIEVED that I had informed Intasure. Surely these situations should have been addressed by the office in Paris before Biser Diveri did a complete inventory and assessed the damaged done. Had I not been give false information and hope of our insurance claim materialising I would not have borrowed money to refurbish and repair the villa and garden to it's former glory I am old enough and wise enough to know that the two female staff and Biser Diveri did not deliberately miss lead me anymore than I deliberately mislead Intasure I have arranged a meeting with our local MP Tony Baldry (also a lawyer) for next Friday when this matter will be discussed in full. He was very instrumental in helping us get our villa back with the assistance of the Vice President of the European Union and the Bulgarian Government Hope to hear from you with a positive result Thank you BT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Gelin, Thomas [mailto:Thomas.Gelin@financial-ombudsman.org.uk] Sent: 19 April 2012 12:15 To: Bryan Subject: RE: Your complaint about The Society of Lloyd's (Our ref: 10567528)
Dear Mr Talbot
Thank you for your patience whilst I reviewed your complaint again. I had to obtain a translation of your lawyer’s statement.
Your lawyer’s advice did not address whether the proceedings should be disclosed to Intasure at renewal. I do not doubt the fact you did not conceal this deliberately but this does not mean I can ask Society of Lloyd’s to review the decision it made regarding your policy.
I would not have used the words ‘impression’ and ‘believed’ if I had known you could take offence from that. I am sorry for this. As I have explained before, Intasure’s agents were acting in line with normal industry practice when they started the validation process for your claim. Considering the time between the claim and the decision on your policy, as well as the context in which the actions of Intasure’s agents took place, I cannot agree that Society of Lloyd’s should be responsible for any cost you incurred in relation to this claim.
This means that I do not consider that your complaint should be upheld. I know that this is not the outcome you were hoping for. And I appreciate that this will come as a disappointment to you.
If you disagree with this, please write and tell me by 3 May 2012 – setting out your reasons and including any evidence that you have not already provided and that you think is important to your case. I would be grateful if you could let me know now, if you plan to reply fully but do not think you will be able to meet this deadline.
As we explain in our leaflet, your complaint and the ombudsman, consumers have the right to ask an ombudsman to review their case – as the final stage of our process. But if we do not hear from you by 3 May 2012, we will assume that you have decided not to pursue the complaint further.
Yours sincerely
Thomas Gelin

| I`ve had friends who took a Bulgarian policy, I was researching the possibility of getting one too. For a total coverage of 120 grand they quoted 210 leva if I remember correctly and it did not include theft of " electronics" ( didn`t need it ). I`ve heard a few complaints about the low compensation received, so keep it in mind. I`ve used Armeec for my cars, some of my paws too, for 6-7 years - no issues at all, have always paid out correctly, might be good for home insurance too ( just an assumpton, you`d better ask someone who has used them ). Will ask around for more details. With all my respect to the insurance brokers, If you speak to one of them he`ll recommend you the best one ( in terms of commissions he`ll get ). I hate generalizing, but because of this experience I`ve changed two so far - same reason. |

| Hi all, I had the chance to speak to some friends who have used different insurance providers. One was happy with Armeec, but most of the good feedback came for Uniqa. All said that you should read very carefully what it covers because many brokers won`t tell you everything. Also, you need to specify that the insurance has to include coverage against robberies with the use of " special tools" ( custom keys that are able to open many locks and so on ) - this is not covered by the standard plan and shall not be compensated in the case of a breach. Hope this helps.
