I thought I would start this thread about Bulgarian motorways and other highways, so lets see what you can add I know there is a lot of talk about how bad the roads are but lets not forget that there is also some good ones too so if you have any pictures of the new roads or roads under construction then let have them here

I think this is the struma motorway on the other side at Bulgarian Greek border taken a few years ago from the car.

This is the Hemus motorway, the tunnels and bridges were constructed more than ten years ago and look dated and not very modern, keep an eye at the new motorways, struma, maritsa and cherno , they surely look extremely modern and shiny, at least the struma motorway does .

Very nice pictures and what a good thread you are right we are always talking about that bad roads but never the good and there are quite a few now since the EU have handed over billions so lets see more

We use the Trakia to Sofia. The new section from Stara Zagora for about 50 KM is brill but there are parts that are so bad you have to fight with the Steering wheel to keep straight.



It is very noticeable how few cars there are compared to the UK. There were more cars on the M25 at 4 in the morning than there is at peak time on BG motorways.

Great pictures I have a friend who has lots of pictures of the roads in Bulgaria he's an engineer and has traveled there a few times for some sort of meetings with the highway departments I'll as him if I can have a few and add them here

Very interesting scott I look forward to seeing it finished actually this has opened my eyes somewhat I can see from these pictures exactly what's involved and it seems that the Bulgarians know what they are doing

Scott well done!!! The road from Dobrich to Silistra is fantastic now we were greatly surprised - Wish we could get a proper road in our village it is dreadful ::
