Sales of Bulgarian cigarette brands in the country continue to shrink and already make up less than half of total sales on the market against 58 per cent a year earlier, according to domestic cigarette companies' figures.
In the first nine months of 2010, majority state-owned tobacco group Bulgartabac Holding saw its market share narrow to 35 per cent compared with 47.5 per cent in the same period of 2009, while Plovdiv-based sector player Kings Tobacco had 14 per cent of the market against 10 per cent a year earlier.
Bulgartabac, however, said that the company and the market in general had started to display a positive trend in recent months.
The cigarette manufacturer cut the price of some of its brands by 20 stotinki in July. The other two major players in the segment, Kings Tobacco and Slance Stara Zagora Tobacco, sell brands in the lowest-price segment.
