:Sunny:Here is something to make you smile. As you may well know I am in the process of setting up a training centre here in Novo Selo. The training centre will give youngsters in the Children's Home of Novo Selo the skills they require to prevent them from becoming prostitutes etc....

The Radisson Blu hotel in Sofia has kindly offered to host a fund raising dinner in aid of Phoenix Inspire on Sunday 5th December. I wait to see what the menu will be. I hope to post the price of tickets soon. All profits from the dinner will go towards the building of the traning centre called Phoenix Inspire at the Coliseum. The crockery with 'The Coliseum' on it was donated by Middleborough College and will be used in the training centre once openned.

Please let me know if you can help in anyway with promotion or you would like tickets.

This is something I am all for so I hope it all goes to plan and you raise a lot of needed funds

I am pleased to let you know that the menu, price and other arrangements are now sorted for December 5th
The menu is:

Bitternut squash soup, tossed with roasted pumpkin seeds and cream

Roasted turkey with corn bread stuffing served with creamed potato, glazed carrots and cranberry sauce

Apple Pie served with vanilla custard.


The menu is simple. Once I have paid for materials the remainder comes to Phoenix Inspire.

Ticket price is 40 leva which should encourage more to attend.

Tickets will be available from the hotel in a couple of weeks. We hope to attract 250 guests

The hotel is offering a special price for accommodation, if required, on the nights of the 4th and 5th. A double room with breakfast will be 65 Euro's and a single 55 Euro's.

I hope the Ambassador for Great Britain will be in attendance. Not confirmed.

All proceeds from the evening will be used to contribute to the setting up of a training centre here in Novo Selo

If you live in Bulgaria, particularly in the Sofia area, please come along and have a good evening

Sofia's Radisson Blu hosts fund raising dinner for catering training centre in Vidin


A high turnout is anticipated, needed and richly deserved for a special fund raising dinner at the Radisson Hotel on December 5 at 7.30pm to establish a catering training centre for deprived youngsters in Novo Selo, Vidin.

The initiative, proposed by a NGO called Phoenix Inspire, is the brainchild of British expatriate Mick Cooper who moved to Novo Selo in January 2008 after hearing about the plight of some of the local children.

Novo Selo is a poor village in the region of Vidin in north west Bulgaria, bordering Romania and Serbia. Novo Selo once had a population of 3500. Currently, it is little more than a thousand. Sadly, 33 per cent of the able population are unemployed.

The new centre will train young people to become competent bakers, chefs, butchers, restaurant and bar staff. It will be the first of its kind in Bulgaria. At the end of their training programme, these young people will have the necessary skills, motivation and opportunities to gain meaningful employment.

Diners on December 5 (the same date as the IWC Christmas bazaar but later in the day so there are no excuses for not attending!!) can enjoy a starter of bitternut squash soup, tossed with roasted pumpkin seeds and cream. Then there's roasted turkey with corned bread stuffing served with creamed potato, glazed carrots and cranberry sauce. Dessert is apple pie served with vanilla custard.

Tickets are priced 40 leva per person and are available from Sofia's Radisson Blu Hotel which has generously agreed to provide catering for the event.
