[size=55:2fpyu905]BNR 09 October 2010 66,000 raised at charity auction to support abandoned children More than BGN 66,000 has been raised at the charity auction The Night of Virtues, a release of the Sofia City Hall and For Our Children Foundation reads. The foundation will use the funding to find foster parents for abandoned children. Thanks to charities raised by last year’s Night of Virtues, seventeen children already live in foster families. Every year 1700 to 2000 children are abandoned by their biological parents in Bulgaria and are admitted to social homes. The national policy advocates the shut-down of such institutions by 2015, and plans to move most of children to foster families, the release also reads.

Without trying to be over pessimistic ... I hope the funds get to those that need it. At least with Berni and Dougie .. we know it does!

The trouble is with things of this nature the Bulgarians are paid so little that temptation must play a huge part I really hope that all this money goes where it should but past history tell us otherwise

What a wonderful achievement, like others I hope the money (all of it) is used wisely and effectively. I could do with some help and advice myself. I hope to put on a fund raising event in Sofia on December 5th at the Radisson Blu Hotel. The money will be used to set up a training centre here in Novo Selo in the Vidin region. The training centre will develop skills so that the children from the Children's Home can get jobs rather than ending up as prostitutes, which I understand 90% of them do, or beggers or thieves. If anyone can advice me of how to promote or encourage people to attend please let me know. I am not sure of ticket prices at the moment. I am due to meet the GM of the hotel on October 29th. Looking forward to hearing from anyone. Best wishes Whalesmc

Good Morning Whalesmc Firstly welcome to the forum, I am Berni and I was away when you joined. I' m still catching up with things here. Secondly [size=150:jwysklsn] Congratulations!! on all that astounding work you do for the children in Vidin, it is just fantastic!!! We could all learn from people like yourself Thanks for caring I wish you well with the event and hope you raise lots of funds. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in Sofie yet apart from the newspapers which I will gladly tell them of your event and perhaps start building up from there. I would suggest selling tickets for the event much better and gives you a clear number of people attending. We might be able to help with musicians but would have to check with them first. Good luck keep me updated Berni Oddy
