First Aid Rip-off at the Seaside
Only private healthcare establishments are operating at the seaside resorts in Bulgaria
Ambulances giving emergency aid at the seaside are charging fares as high as the local cabs.
"
They charged one lev per kilometer to carry us to the hospital"
Our investigation has shown that not a single GP or dental doctor at the northern seaside has signed a contract with the national health insurance fund. Thus, the tourists have to pay for all medical services that they might need during their holiday. A visit at the doctor's costs 35 levs for Bulgarians and 40 euro for foreigners. Sources from the health ministry said they are planning to put an end to this vicious practice by sending more state-funded GPs at the seaside.
