Interview with Katie P specially for SPIRIT of Burgas

We are excited to welcome you as our guest at the festival, have you been to Bulgaria or the Black Sea Coast before?

Katie P : "
Hello! I have never been before and I am really excited!"

Have you been to a festival on a beach before?

Katie P : "
I haven't actually. My current job with Trident Gum is to travel to 30 different festivals around the world and I think that I am most looking forward to the beach ones!"

What are your expectations of the festival? Have you heard anything about it before?

Katie P : "
I have been looking at the website and checking out people's reviews online and it's all very positive. Am hoping that it will be fun, loud, exciting and that I'll get to meet a load of nice new people!"

What acts are you looking forward to seeing most at the festival?

Katie P : "
Probably The Prodigy and Serj Tankian. The Prodigy are totally incredible live and have the amazing ability to play to totally different style audiences and convert everyone. I love System Of A Down and Serj Tankian's solo work - so to see him play in such interesting surroundings will be great!"

You are a seasoned festival goer and will be attending 30 festivals in 30 weeks. What are your top 5 tips for festival fans to help them make the most of their festival experience.

Katie P : "
My top 5 tips? Drink plenty of water, wear suncream, take toilet paper, carry a marker-pen with you, and don't worry about anything - just relax and go with the flow!"

What do you love most about festivals?

Katie P : "
I love the idea of thousands of people being united outdoors in a shared love of music and entertainment and having a great time!"

What was your best festival experience and why?

Katie P : "
I went to Soundwave rock festival in Sydney Australia a few years ago and was able to watch some incredible bands play in a beautiful setting with the sunset dropping behind the stages - beer, good food, great people - it was amazing!"

What was your worst festival experience and why?

Katie P : "
I went to a few Glastonbury festivals when I was at school that were very, very muddy and wet and cold. You can try and relax and enjoy yourself - but when you are shivering and uncomfortable, it does make it harder!"

You are also a music journalist who has written for magazines such as Kerrang in the UK. What tips can you give to budding writers who want to get their foot on the ladder.

Katie P : "
Write about what you love so the passion for what you're writing about will shine through and entice people to read more. Start a blog and write as often as you can about everything you see/hear - practicing different styles and lengths of pieces. If you want to write for a particular publication, make sure you understand their editorial style and grammar so that when you submit them ideas, they can see how you would fit into their team. Good luck!"

thank you!

About the festival

SPIRIT of Burgas is the rising star of Eastern European festival scene set against the beautiful backdrop of Bulgaria’s Back Sea Coast.

Launched in 2008, SPIRIT of Burgas was the first event of its kind in the country offering a variety of stages and diverse range of artists covering all genres of music. The festival has continued to grow each year and was nominated for ‘Best European Festival’ at the UK Festival Awards in 2008 and for the ‘Best Overseas Festival’ category in 2009. In the same year the Times named SPIRIT as one of the Top 20 European Music Festivals and a program about the festival was broadcast across the MTV European Network in 16 countries. In 2010 the festival was also shortlisted for the ‘Best Medium Sized Festival’ category at the inaugural European Festival Awards in January 2010.

This high recognition for the SPIRIT of Burgas would, of course, be impossible without the support of the thousands of fans who voted and festival staff open-heartedly expresses its sincerest gratitude. Being recognised as one of Europe’s best festivals alongside some of the biggest long standing Festivals is an amazing achievement for Spirit of Burgas as a new festival on the scene.

Taking place from 13th-15th August on the picture-perfect white sands of the city’s central beach, SPIRIT of Burgas will offer several stages: you shall enjoy live rock, reggae and ska, jazz and blues, hardcore and punk, ethno music, trance, techno, drum and bass, in other worlds, a full palette of musical sounds. And while listening to top local and international artists, you’ll enjoy the sunny days and starlight nights and thousands of smiling party people from all Europe.

The SPIRIT of Burgas fest shall run under the patronage of the Mayor of Burgas municipality, Mr. Dimitar Nikolov. The City’s desire to embrace contemporary culture and the arts and its stunning coastal location makes Burgas the perfect location as the home of SPIRIT of Burgas Music Festival. Burgas is the country’s fourth largest city being home to 250,000 residents and in the summer months the city swells to around 500,000 as the unique combination of sea, sun and culture make Burgas a favourite destination for holiday makers. The hot city atmosphere gives a motive to the organizers and the city council to organize a huge event which reflects the contemporary musical culture.

And finally, one more thing: keep smiling! Your smiling face is of no less importance than the ticket! Because your good mood is of crucial importance for the whole festival spirit!
