Pleven to receive 10M euro for public transport improvement

Pleven municipality is poised to receive 10 million euro for the modernisation and development of its public transport system, Dnevnik reported on March 22 2010. Pleven is a town in northern Bulgaria.

The money will be supplied under the Regional Development programme. For the development of the public transportation system in the country's seven biggest cities, Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Bourgas, Rousse, Stara Zagora and Pleven, the total resource is 160 127 475 euro, of which 136 108 354 is from the EC. The rest is generated by the respective municipalities.

The project in Pleven is estimated to cost a total of 24 million leva. The resources need to be appropriated inside the first period of the programme, spanning 2012 and 2013.

Reportedly, the funds will be needed to "
expand the trolleybus network in the city by 27km, renovation of the trolleybus depot, the purchase of new vehicles, the construction and installation of an information system on all bus and trolleybus stops, and the improvement of safety procedures,"
Dnevnik said.

The transport network will be expanded along the Doiran, Hemous and Hristo Botev streets, as well as Treti Mart street. Additionally, works will be conducted in Ninth borough, Kailuka borough and Pleven's industrial zone.
