[size=150:1lc7bxo4]Philip treated for blocked artery

The Duke of Edinburgh has had a good night following his treatment for a blocked coronary artery, Buckingham Palace said.

Philip was taken from Sandringham to a specialist heart hospital on Friday night after complaining of chest pains, and following tests a blocked artery was discovered by doctors.

He underwent an "
invasive procedure of coronary stenting"
at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, which was declared a success.

The royal family has gathered at Sandringham - the Queen's private Norfolk estate - for Christmas, and some of them are expected to visit him in hospital.

In a brief statement Buckingham Palace gave an update on Philip's condition, saying "
the Duke of Edinburgh has had a good night"
.

Philip will remain under observation at the hospital for a short period and is expected to be visited by members of his family.

There was no indication when he would be discharged, but medical experts have said that many patients can leave hospital a day after undergoing the procedure, providing there are no complications.

Buckingham Palace had earlier said: "
Following tests at Papworth Cardiothoracic Hospital in Cambridge this evening the Duke of Edinburgh was found to have a blocked coronary artery which caused his chest pains.

"
This was treated successfully by the minimally invasive procedure of coronary stenting. Prince Philip will remain in hospital under observation for a short period."

The drama began when the Duke was taken to hospital with reports saying he was flown there by helicopter.

Sending him our good wishes and get well soon! g Oddy

Queen visits recuperating Duke

The Queen and other members of the royal family have visited the Duke of Edinburgh in hospital, where he is recuperating following treatment for a blocked coronary artery.

The Earl of Wessex, the Princess Royal and the Duke of York accompanied the Queen as they visited Philip's bedside at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge.

The Duke, 90, was "
in good spirits"
, Buckingham Palace said. The Palace had earlier said Philip had spent a "
good night"
following the coronary stent procedure on Friday evening.

The Palace said: "
The Queen, the Duke of York, the Earl of Wessex and the Princess Royal arrived from Sandringham to Papworth by helicopter before 11am.

"
They were met by Mr Stephen Bridge, chief executive of Papworth, and Professor John Cunningham, physician to the Queen.

"
The visit lasted 45 minutes. Prince Philip is in good spirits.

"
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall also arrived by car 45 minutes later."

There were no further details about when the Duke would be discharged.

The Queen was flown in to Papworth from Sandringham, her private Norfolk estate, where the royal family is spending Christmas.

Philip was taken to the specialist heart hospital after complaining of chest pains, and following tests a blocked artery was discovered by doctors.

Wishing him well and we all hope he makes a speedy recovery and is well enough to go home to him family for Christmas.

Most people have this sort of thing done in a few hours and then sent home. I don't see what all the fuss is about. Philip treated for blocked artery 739492727

Fourth night in hospital for Duke

The Duke of Edinburgh has missed the Royal Family's annual Boxing Day shoot as he remained in hospital following a heart scare.

Philip, 90, was admitted to Papworth Hospital near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire on Friday night after complaining of chest pains.

He underwent treatment for a blocked coronary artery and was kept in hospital as a precaution.

The Duke had hoped to be discharged from hospital in time for the shoot, but was expected to remain in hospital for a fourth night. Despite the setback, he was said to be in good spirits.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: "
The Duke of Edinburgh continues to make good progress from the procedure. He remains in hospital under observation and in good spirits."

The Palace said there was no change this morning but added that the Duke had spent another "
good night"
at Papworth, which is a specialist heart hospital. Following tests, doctors discovered a blocked artery and he underwent a "
minimally invasive procedure of coronary stenting"
, which was declared a success, but he has been kept in so doctors can keep a close eye on his recovery.

This is the most serious health scare suffered by the Duke, who is known for being robust and active.

The Duke of Cambridge and his younger brother Harry drove separate cars to the hospital from Sandringham, the Queen's private Norfolk estate, taking the Duke of York's daughters Beatrice and Eugenie and the Princess Royal's children Zara and Peter with them for a 45-minute visit to their grandfather. They made the journey after enjoying lunch at Sandringham, having changed into more casual attire than their earlier outfits for the traditional Christmas church service at the estate.

William, who is rarely photographed wearing glasses, wore them as he drove a Range Rover with Peter and Zara as his passengers, while Harry drove an Audi with Beatrice and Eugenie inside.

Their visit would have been a welcome distraction for the Duke who is thought to have missed his first Christmas morning service at Sandringham, an annual tradition for the Royal Family since the early 1990s.

True Berni but 90 or not this is something that many people have done but I don't read anything like this about it. If you ask me there is either more to it than they are saying? or its a song and dance because he is the queens husband. Philip treated for blocked artery 739492727

whether your a royalist or not, any event of the royals will make the headlines. i would image not many people have undergone this surgery at the age of 90. they are probably airing on the side of caution dealing with such a public figure g. look aside from the titles, philip is a 90 year old human being, his family love him, lets wish for a speedy recovery. g

MBE in the post, i believe. g [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I think some of what is said here is correct but I remember when my mother had this operation done a few years ago and there were elderly people in the hospital of that age who went home the same day so even an extra day which they sometimes keep people in for is acceptable but this is a long time for such a mundane operation these days.

s

Regardless of who he is, the fact that he is 90 years old and gone through all this has just amazed me. He should be taking things easy at his time of life but as you can see he is booked in for yet another engagement. Sincerely wish him all the luck in the world.

Duke of Edinburgh to leave hospital
he Duke of Edinburgh will leave hospital this morning following his heart scare, Buckingham Palace said.

"
He will be rejoining the Queen and other members of the Royal Family at Sandringham,"
said a palace spokeswoman.

The 90-year-old Duke was taken to Papworth Hospital near Cambridge on Friday night after he complained of chest pains.

Following tests, doctors discovered a blocked artery and he underwent a "
minimally invasive procedure of coronary stenting"
, which was declared a success.

This is the most serious health scare suffered by the Duke, who is known for being robust and active.

He had hoped to be discharged from hospital in time for the Boxing Day shoot at Sandringham, which he normally leads, but remained under observation in hospital. Despite the setback, he was said to be in good spirits.

He has shunned the pursuits of typical pensioners and even as an octogenarian continued to compete in demanding carriage driving competitions.

Philip's most recent illness was an uncharacteristic cold in October that forced him to pull out of an overnight stay in Italy for the launch of the ARC Green Pilgrimage Network.

At the time he had just completed a busy 11-day official royal tour to Australia with the Queen, 85, that saw them visit Perth, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane.

His next formal engagement is a dinner at the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge on January 17.

I fully understand what you are saying, s What I mean is ,my Dad was not even given the opportunity. Or put it another way, suddenly change of plans cos Royalty has turned up , I think that you would not be pleased ?Handshake: Not everybody gets the privilege he does. And when you watch your father get weaker every single day ,before he died, does leave a bitter taste in your mouth Angel
