EuroTransplant' Will Donate Emergency Organs to Bulgaria

EuroTransplant"
organization, with members in seven countries, will begin to donate human organs to Bulgaria in emergency cases.
The arrangement has been confirmed on Friday at a meeting of the Bulgarian Health Ministry, following its adoption by "
EuroTransplant International Foundation"
at its recent annual general meeting.
The seven European countries participating in the organ exchange are Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Slovenia.
"
Eurotransplant"
will assist Bulgaria for transplants that are not currently made in the country - small intestine;
lungs;
pancreas;
and multiple organ transplants.
The organization will also help with treatment and in improving the qualifications of Bulgarian specialists. According to experts in this sector, if there is a need for specific operations on patients in Bulgaria, it will be possible for other specialists to come and conduct the surgery.
At present, Bulgaria has 757 people waiting for kidney transplants, 36 for liver transplants, and 28 for a replacement heart. The number of dead donors in 2010 to date is three, with a total of 11 such cases in 2009.
