Hi folks, I live near Chirpan and have been told that I need to go to Stara Zagora to fix up my long term visa. Can someone please tell me where in SZ, presumably the main police station, where ever that is? Thanks!

Coming from the Chirpan direction, I find it easier and quieter (traffic wise) to come in via Bogomilovo...just a suggestion.

Thanks folks I have GPS to find the police station but I wondered whether anyone here had actually used the SZ office to get the above. I have a friend who obtained theirs from Plovdiv but only after a bit of hassle. As EU citizens ( for the moment) why do we have to go through this palaver?

Ans? - Any person visiting another EU member country has to comply with the legal regulations of that Country, all will vary, and These are Bulgaria's rules, for the moment, So we have to jump the hoops to be a legal resident. If BREXIT becomes a reality, it will probably change..... and maybe for the worse. who knows????

Sorry if I was unclear. I understand the kegalities:

It was a rhetorical question, although as you write, after 23rd it may become far more interesting.

Hi Bernie and Dougie,

I am British, retired, and own a property here. I am not claiming benefits from any government and we are living off our savings which are in Bulgarian banks,  I was under the impression that I still need to obtain a long stay visa here. When we visited the Bulgarian embassy in Qatar (where I was working) before moving here the attache said that after three months we would need to get this visa. Can you clarify? Many thanks, Richard

I have a feeling that the 'term' is where the confusion is arising? pre EU everyone had to apply for a VISA, post EU only non EU members need a visa but EU members need RESIDENCY Card after 90 days.

See below forum section, all info should be there? long term visa Stara Zagora 3367882216

Thanks for reply deerstalker, so no you don't need a visa just Litchen Carta/residency ID card [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has provided the link above.  We have just gone thorough this process and it was the easiest process we have ever had in BG.  The only thing I forgot to do was to get our documents translated ie marriage certificate, proof of pension and EC11 cards.

Bill was it the 'self funded section we needed can't remember also can't find the applications form need to find them for another family here in Silistra.

Hi again,

Sorry folks, I think that I was confusing everyone. I meant a residency permit but used the term visa. I don't have an EHIC card but do have a year's health insurance form.

That would be your Litchen Carta/residency ID card is wqhat's needed. You can still apply for your  EC11 cards at a later date if you wish too. s

Hi Deerstalker

For both you and your wife - you will need The health insurance (main details only) will need to be translated to BG or if you have time to get the EC11 cards (usually about 3 weeks) they can be used. You also need your passports, marriage certificate, and proof of income ie pension salary etc. As you have a bank in BG you will also need a current bank statement and the two application form which you can print off I found mine on their main website but cannot locate them now. Once you have all the documents go to the immigrations office either they will help you fill out the form or ask a Bulgarian to do it for you. Once they application form is fill out you can do the rest yourself, it is very straight forward.
