I was recently musing, as you do, about the English language and the fact that for some words the singular is the same as the plural. Most of the time this relates to flora or fauna, swine and wheat being examples. The only one that I can think of that is neither is cannon although this is debatable. Can anyone else think of a non flora or fauna word that fits the criteria? It's been driving me nuts!

Undecided on this one Simon...the word weather. Never heard it used as a plural...usually weather patterns or types of weather.
What do you think?

OK, lets keep it on tangible objects...think along automobile lines and consider the word 'chassis' .

I've not been described as fauna before, but the word 'offspring' comes to mind.

This is a lot of fun Simon, and I'm enjoying myself. ie. let's take the word glass. In it's purest form, it is simply melted, or molten sand which has solidified and usually looks like a shiny puddle...by itself, it's simply glass....multiple puddles are just glass. A good example of an uncountable noun!

Another good example is the word milk...uncountable noun....one drop is the same as a million gallons, but it is still just milk.

Your turn. c
