| Golly gosh we have been in BG for a year already I can't believe how time has flown by. We have experienced all season now but the winter was not too bad but bad enough. We were prepared with enough food, wood, candles and things to keep us busy when the electricty was cut, even that was not oo bad only 3 days with no electricty. The first floor balcony was covered in with plastic sheeting. The north wall was insulated from the inside so the villa was not as cold as the previous year. We had enough rads for every room and hallway. We kept the pathway and the top balcony clear of snow all the time.. We took up the plastic in the drive and added stones so the water can soak away, thankfully no floods. The only real problem we had was the dirt roadway, they said the plough could not get down to clear it, but it could have. So we had to clear it ourselves and it took us a good few days as it is a long way up the hill. My concern was if Dougie had another heart attack how would we get out or how would they get in. Now I know the dangers So I have to ensure I insist the mayor get the roadway cleared this year. I let him away with it last year but he is in for a surprise this year Life here is good, we have very fortunate as we have lovely neighbours and we are the only English/Irish in the village for 40km We have a lovely Australian family about 15km away and we meet up for lunch or dinner every now and than. We socialise with the Bulgarian's and we are very involved in the folklore concerts, one could say we are their groupies we go to all the concerts and help host them in our community hall. Our social life is great, in the UK we hardly every went out but then work committments always was a priority. I feel we have made a good move and now we are into our second year we will see how that goes. We have been home a few times but glad to get back to BG. I did say we will try it here for 3 years and if we can't get on than we will go back to summer here and winter at home. However, I am finding I don't want to leave here for longer than a few days. I love the freedom, the choices, the life we have here. I just hope this feeling continues for a long while yet. |
