I know that I am starting a topic here that will not please or interest everybody, but being an ex athlete I have a personal interest in what is going on in the world of sport. I competed in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin at the age of 20 years and also in the BAOR football final in Dortmund in 1960. We watch the events on Television and we witness the sheer joy of the winners and the doom and gloom for the losers, having said that I don't think there are any losers because having got to the Olympics is an achievement anyway
I am English, a true Brit and am proud of it, to see the Union Jack raised in the Olympic Stadium justifies the fact that we can compete with any country in the world if played on a level playing field, and now that the drug issues have been addressed we are competing on a level playing field and it shows in the medal table
Congratulations to all the athletes/competitors, you have made a statement to the rest of the world that we are a force to be recognised with and that you have put the GREAT back into Great Britain
