What you up to Christmas Empty
PostSubject: This question has probably been asked before....   What you up to Christmas Icon_minitimeSun Dec 13, 2015 4:55 pm

....but I'm interested to see how you all intend spending the Xmas/New Years break this year. I've celebrated or otherwise been part of about 66 of these in the past...and they have all been different! I've done it in Australia (temps up around the 40C mark), in Thailand, twice, with very high temps and humidity around 85%, Vietnam, in the middle of a serious bunfight which had me flying resup and medevac flights for almost 20 hrs on Xmas Day (1966), Zimbabwee, with monkeys stealing food off the table, Switzerland with taboggan races down the hill, before breakfast, the UK, with its very quiet, almost non-event celebration and finally here in Bulgaria...this will be my 9th one over here.

This year, we will have a mixed bunch, 9 Bulgies, 1 Aussie and 1 American....ages between 13 and 68 years. Two of them are studying at Oxford, three at Uni in Sofia, little Missy at high school here in Plovdiv, the older ladies all grew up under the Commo banner...and then there's me! Conversation should be interesting.

The old fellow next door will wake everyone up quite early...killing his fatted pig, just beside our garden gate...cuts its throat and chases it around his garden until it's dead...drag the body to the conctrete slab and proceed to scorch its skin off with a gas torch...no more details needed!!!!! I've found that a glass or two of sherry for breakfast helps dull my hearing.

Anyway, let's hear from you guys...what have you got planned?

This year for the first time in 6 years we will be spending Christmas alone and that's by choice, in the past we have had as many as 22 for dinner and its taken its toll on us so we thought we would take this year out including new year and just relax by ourselves. s

Kick Fergie out of the garage and set up in there.

I've never tasted turkey...is it any good?

We are feeding 11 this year...shoulder of veal, leg of lamb and a couple of chickens, plus all the other (cold) stuff that Bulgarians like.

Luckily, when I made our dining table I designed it to seat 12...no one gets to sit on the floor!! Cooking

I was given some beautiful presents Yvanka made a duvet from scratch, a proper Bulgarian one like the old ederdowns my grandmother use to have but she made it for our Kingsize bed.  Should have guessed what she was up to when she wanted to see the bed earlier in the year.  Also had some beautiful hand made rugs on is over 50 years old and was made by Dancho grandmother. It has been wrapped up in a trunk all this time. Ginka also made a rug for us.  How luck are we What you up to Christmas 2706089290  to have such wonderful What you up to Christmas 1536469901

Berni, It looks as if you have had a great time and it just goes to show that where ever you are in the world it is possible to enjoy yourselves

Now I know why you were not included in the New Years Honours list

She was the bubbly, buxom blonde in the Carry On films and later became the battleaxe who ruled over London’s best-known pub in television soap EastEnders.
Now, at the age of 78, Barbara Windsor’s status as a national treasure is to be confirmed – when she is made a Dame.
The Mail on Sunday understands that the actress is to be awarded the honour in the New Year’s list, joining an exclusive club that includes among its members Judi Dench and Helen Mirren.

Barbara Windsor, pictured here in Carry on Doctor in 1968, will become a Dame in the New Year Honours list
