From April 1 going into hospital only after presentation of a personal document
From April 1, 2015 hospitalizations and hospital discharge of all insured citizens will be a single registration system, reported by the National Health Insurance Fund. For this purpose when taking and leaving the hospital, patients will have to submit to the registry a Bulgarian personal document.
This can be:
• ID card;
• Provisional certificates issued by the Ministry of Interior, the loss of identity card;
• Passport;
• Mariners passport;
• Certificate of residence of EU citizens;
• Card for permanent resident in the Republic of Bulgaria;
• Permission to (permanent) residence;
• BLD legacy (green passport);
• Bulgarian citizens without such (infants and children under 14) are accepted in the medical institutions of the companion document / guardian, as their data are entered manually into the registration system.
The system will process data from personal document and register hospitalization while will send information about the Central Office of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF HQ) and check whether the document is valid. The whole procedure will take no more than a few seconds. The system will operate in the same way and at hospital discharge of patients.
The registration system will allow transparency and increased control over the appropriate use of funds from health insurance contributions of every citizen. Medical activities reported for patients for whom no records in the registration system, will be paid by the NHIF.
