When we bought our house in 2007 we did not realize that BPA put our address as a shopping mall in Veliko Tornovo, We had our company moved to Shoumen in order to register our car. We have found out today that when we moved it ,it was automatically put on the company register, so we do not have to re registerd, saved us a few bob!! It might vary region to region but that is our experience in NE BG

Liquidation or more time to re register for 900 000 firms in Bulgaria

Only 25 per cent of Bulgarian companies are operational in real terms, according to Registry Agency data.

Three months ahead of the expiry of the three-year period that Bulgarian businesses were given to re-register, just 285 301 firms have registered with the agency and almost 900 000 have not done so.

With the December 31 deadline looming large, it is impossible to register more than 50 000 to 60 000 companies within the 80 working days left.

Thus the reform, which was postponed thrice even before its kick-off in 2008, is facing another delay as no timely solution has been found for the coming problems.

The Ministry of Justice did not respond to inquiries from Dnevnik on what progress has been made with the pressing amendments to the Commercial Registry Act without which the liquidation of 900 000 companies will cost taxpayers 450 million leva.

Unofficial reports claim that yet another working group has been tasked with drafting the bill but has not come up with specific texts.

In July and August, the Justice Ministry announced two projects but none has made its way to the Cabinet and Parliament.

According to the proposals, sole proprietors and branches of foreign companies that fail to re register by January 1 2011 will automatically cease to exist and will be struck off the registry.

Commercial entities and co-operatives will be removed from turnover and they will be banned from making use of their property, striking deals and making payments to business partners.

Bulgaria Extends Deadline as Closure Looms for 1 Million Firms

The Bulgarian Cabinet has approved draft amendments to extend by 6 months the legal deadline for the campaign to register anew all firms in the country.

Under the Commercial Register Act changes adopted in 2008, all active legal companies in Bulgaria are required to make new registration with the Registry Agency so that inactive and "
ghost"
firms can be eliminated from the entries.

Less than three months before the deadline about 285 000 firms renewed their registration, in addition to 129 000 others created after the changes were adopted in 2008.

A total of about 900 000 firms, however, have failed to do so. Thus, during its meeting on Wednesday, the Bulgarian Cabinet agreed upon new draft amendments to the Commercial Register Act extending the deadline for re-registration by June 30, 2011.

The issue came in as an emergency submitted by Justice Minister Margarita Popova, and was not originally included in the government's agenda. It is still unclear what mechanism exactly the Bulgarian authorities will employ in order to shut down the hundreds of thousands of inactive firms without jamming the court system.

The registration trends so far have largely confirmed forecasts by experts that only about one-fourth of the firms in Bulgaria are active.
