I ask as this year, like last winter, our nearest neighbours have all but disappeared and apart from a fleeting visit on Baba Marta Day they have not been seen until today, when, returning from walking our dogs (in well over a foot of snow) we spotted our neighbour as she was finishing clearing the snow from the flat roof on part of her house, nothing unusual there apart from the fact she must be in her late 70's! I admit to admiring her husbands style though, he stayed at ground level supervising! Equality at it's best!!

Which poses the question, what has everyone else done to wile away these last few wet and snowy weeks?

Answers on a postcard please, no only kidding, post them here it might wake a few people up!!

I know what your saying. We tend to spend all our winters decorating or mending something that has broken indoors. and perhaps going for some long walks which I find hard to do in the 30 degree sunshine, we also find time to visit our neighbors just to make sure they are ok and need nothing and perhaps invite some of them around for dinner and treat them to some traditional English food which they seem to enjoy. Like you Trev our neighbours have all disappeared too so its a bit of a ghost town, not really much to do or many to speak to locally, I suppose we do all the odd jobs that have accumulated throughout the summer which is a time to enjoy rather doing anything else, we sometimes will go for a walk or even a long trip to another part of Bg.

Our neighbours mostly disappear in the Winter, especially when the snow is about. The only advantage of having snow is we can actually see which house is inhabited in our village by the footprints or the non footprints around the front doors of the properties. Around a third of our village houses are not occupied and the winter is the only time we can see which one's are empty.

We have three inches of the white stuff all over the place again this morning and I was going to cut some wood today, fat chance!!

Well one thing I did during our enforced hibernation was to sit down and learn to identify (by sight and song) some of the common birds that we saw in the countryside around us last year, useful thing this internet once you find out how to use it!

But so as not to go “off thread” I will head to the Language section  to continue as someone may be able to help give me some Bulgarian names for this morning’s sightings.
