I must agree with varnagirl - your picture doesn't look like four cubes, always best to measure it when it is stacked up. The BG's don't take anyone's word for what they have had delivered until they check it out and then payment is made. Bernard organised four cubes for us last year and insisted on measuring it three times before he was happy about it. I looked at it once and thought that it was OK, but he wasn't happy and kept getting his tape measure to it.

Ah never thought of measuring it, Ginka followed the lorry down and looked at the paperwork she was not happy at all and it toruned out that it was because of the extra 23lev which was for transport - she was told transport was included in the 280lev quoted. She was happy it was 2 ton she only buy it in ton's and the delivery was in her name not ours. i suppose because it was spread out oaver the ground, it did not look much but it was a small truck full Next time I will get the tape measure and then watch Dougie's face I can assure you it will be a picture The price of wood for 2014 - Page 2 3135333095

We received four cubes from our Mayor yesterday and the quantity was alright, but the wood could have been chopped a bit smaller, some of the wood was only cut in half. Our wood burner is rather large, but even so some of the wood will have to be chopped by yours truly to fit inside it. 65 Leva a cube, cut and chopped with no delivery charge isn't bad, but the chopper will have to be used in the height of the winter! No pun intended!!

Yes Vernagirl - we will be getting the rest of our wood from another known supplier who cuts it properly!

I don't believe we will be buying the mayor's wood any more, his wood is so wet it is really difficult to light. We use firelighters, but even these are having difficulty in getting the fire going. Only trouble is our kindling wood has had a good soaking with snow laying on top of it for the past week, but even so I will be out cutting kindling wood tomorrow, otherwise me and Annette will have a cold day indoors!

The wood we also bought is not very good - I don' know much about wood but it is hard to keep the fire going. The wood is smouldering and will often die out unless we keep puttin lighter wood in. We have even tried chopping the bigger logs to smaller bits but not making a difference. The electric oil filled rads are on most of the time until the electrict cuts out this happens several times a day now. I am looking a new form of heating will start a new post on that.

Itchy when the petchka is on get an old tin tray and lay the kindling inside and put on the top o the petchkia to dry out for about 10 mins, change the kindling we do this now with the logs too and the smell of wood is fab but be very careful you don't go out and forget it. Keep warm.

T for the kindling wood info Berni - we have made several mistakes with buying our wood, first;
we should have seen how heavy it was and refused it, BG's would have done! second;
we should have bought it earlier in the year and let the sun dry it out for a month or so, thirdly;
we should keep it for a year before using it, this is what most BG's do, unfortunately, we don't have the storage area to do that at the moment. Next year should be different, I hope !!

You know it amazes me that people who have been on the forum for some time still seem to take no notice of what is posted to help with problems like buying and storing wood. There has been so much advice over the years about buying ahead and storing all wood under some kind of covering even if you haven't got a spare barn. Doesn't anyone listen thinking it won't happen to them? Damp wood will not burn properly. A woodburning stove is very efficient and the cheapest form of heat and there in an electricity cut (if you have a battery back-up.) Wood chopping any delivered wood to size is the norm unless paying extra for chopped to size. Even the old ladies chop their own. Its also good exercise and gives something to do in the winter. I honestly despair of some Brits who do not seem to realise that life is so very different in Bulgaria and much harder than in 'soft' Britain where there is an answer for everything. Self reliance is very necessary in Bulgaria or anywhere abroad and acceptance of the way things are done has to be understood. Watch and learn is my advice.
