Is it worth flying to Bucharest Empty
PostSubject: Is it worth flying to Bucharest   Is it worth flying to Bucharest Icon_minitimeMon Jun 02, 2014 8:54 pm

Hi
just wondered if anyone has travelled from Bucharest to southern Bulgaria. I know there are issues with Wizz air discounts but at the moment they are offering fantastic deals from Doncaster - which is our local airport - at less than 20 quid a flight.
I've looked at various internet routes from the airport to Elhovo - we are slightly further east - and they are very conflicting in distance and mileage - anyone done it? - comments and advice much appreciated

A friend of mine used to fly to Bucharest and travel down. I believe he used to take the bus which goes from Bucharest to Ruse to Sofia. Bucharest bus station to Ruse bus station used to be about 30 euros for a return ticket. I can't really help on the flights, but it may be worth checking out bus and train links as well.

As far as I can remember wizzair and blueair are the airlines that would be cheapest and best. The Bucharest-Istanbul train leaves Bucharest (Gar de Nord) daily at 13.24 I think this is the train you would need if you decide to take the train.

Hi Carolo

Not sure about flying to Hungary you still have to cross the Romanan and Bulgarian borders and it is till a long way 14 hours drive to Ruse. You would have to check the buses to Ruse, varna or Burgas but agin you are looking at about 9 hours. Great if you like traveling.

We live in Silistra which is up by the Romanian border it is only a 10 minute barge ride to Romania but about 2.5 hours drive to the airport from there. Our friend did the trip last year, she could not hire a car in Rom unless she paid them 600euro deposit plus they limited her viist in Bulgaria to 48hours. We hired a taxi driver friend to go and pick her up and take her back again at a total cost of 400lev. Our friends in Byala always fly with Blueair and the taxi driver meets them at the airport and brings them back to Byala the cost is 100euro. If you are confident with public transport there is a bus that goes from Bucharest station to Ruse than you can get a bus from Ruse to Burgas it will take 2.5 hours to Ruse and about 7 hours to Burgas we did that Burgas Ruse trip once but it was too long. You might be better going Stanstead to Sofia with easyjet flights are much cheaper now. Also Ryanair flies from Luton to Plovdiv and of course you have Bulgarianair London Heathrow to Varna .

For those in the Northern half of Britain it would be good for us if Wizz transfered at least 1 Burgas bound flight a week from Luton to Doncaster, even if for a trial to see if it's viable.
Bucharest is in Romania not Hungary!

Last year my daughter flew Burgas Budapest Luton, much cheaper than a direct flight from Burgas to Luton. Have a look at wizz air flights down to Burgas to Budapest.
