Today Brenda and myself collected our photo id cards . . . Hooray.
I now want to proceed with registering my car with BG plates , insurance , tax etc.
Can any of you lovely people give me a guide on the process ?

We put ourselves in the hands of a local garage....and no, they didn't charge us a fortune. But they did know what was needed better than we did. We found him by asking around other ex-pats in the village who had already done it.

We paid an extra 36lev each for our photo ids . . shows where you apply can make a big difference.
Been here 6 weeks today and apart from the longest day of our lives when applying for our Lichna Kartas :0) we've enjoyed every
moment . Our village neighbours have shown us nothing but goodwill and kindness and we have been overwhelmed by their generosity.
Our kmet could not be more helpful and has welcomed us with open arms into the community.
We love this simple life and the lovely people around us. Mind you they all smile at the meagre woodpile I've collected since arriving.
Asked a friend how long my timber would last ( thinking 2 months ) he shot me down with a reply of about 10 days !! Oh well I've so
much to learn :0). Got to go now . . . add to my winter woodpile David and Brenda

Don't forget you have to register the car with the local council office and pay municipal tax within two weeks of changing your registration.

As for wood, we got 10 cubic metres (which Dave chopped) initially, but then got another six (already chopped and cheaper!) in case we have a bad winter. To give you an idea of what it looks like.....

This can be a bit of a long job, even if you know what you're doing and speak fluent Bulgarian.

KAT are not renowned for either their 'speed' of work, nor for being 'over helpful' when it comes to dealing with foreigners.

You'll probably have to spend an entire day at KAT, going through the various processes (and paying money at each stage involved) in getting your Bulgarian registration documents and your new number plates.

My advice would be to pay somebody with experience of the system to check all your paperwork beforehand and, once they think everything is in order, to then go along with you to KAT. Unfortunately, this is not something they can do on your behalf as your signature will be required various times, but it's certainly worth paying somebody to go with you

I agree with Chris, we wouldn't tackle any of it ourselves. As it turned out both procedures were fairly painless and not over long, and we have a girl who comes with us as interpreter, (apart from the reg of car) whenever paperwork is concerned as she does it all the time and knows what is involved. Worth the cost in time saved and knowing you have not missed anything, because if you do, no-one will tell you, you just get a fine!
It is supposedly easier with the car next year as you just have to hand over money and sign.

Crikey Ive got some wood stockpiling to do Sarah !!

We have a Bulgarian friend in the village who helped us with our Lichnas.
He speaks good English so will most likely help us with the car registration bit.
Have made a note about informing local authorities within 2 weeks !!
