Car Boots Empty
PostSubject: Car Boots   Car Boots Icon_minitimeThu Feb 21, 2013 2:30 pm

I have heard that there is to be yet another carboot - this one in the VT area. There is already a big carboot at Camping VT but this new one will be on different weekends. Now I am asking - why do Brits want so many car boots and what on earth can they have to sell besides a few crafts and some expensive imports? Have they been here long enough to accumulate stuff to sell or is it just a way to meet fellow Brits? Will it become another gossip shop? Don't mean to offend but I cannot think of anything worse than to go into a Lions Den of Expats at a car boot and I can cook my own bacon sandwiches in the comfort of my own little village home from home using tasty Bulgarian bacon or proscuitto readily available in our village shop. What say you? Car Boots 1865348797

Well I would not go to a car boot sale if you paid me to attend one Car Boots 739492727

But many people go in order to have the the English Breakfast, and the Scottish variation with Black Pudding. They think they are making friends but in reality they are only lining the pockets of people that want to sell their own unwanted trivia. Because lets be honest if it was any good they would not be selling it anyway. Plus why buy second hand when you can buy new for less money. Totally agree with you oldun - why people come to BG and try to live the British way of life is beyond me. As I said in my introduction we lived in Spain for a while and one of the reasons we moved was because it was like the UK with sun. Expats over here seem to want to huddle together get as many Brits as they can to go to boot sales, English breakfasts, bingo etc. Back in the UK we have a great many friends, but when my family moved here we were determined to live the BG lifestyle, we have one British couple who are special friends, and all our other friends are Bulgarian, yes we do know other Brits here, but they are just acquaintances. In the UK people soon complain when foreigners do not integrate in the British lifestyle but what are the Brits trying to :group:do here!!! Car Boots 3023850720

Oh I say, you are rather a negative lot this evening Car Boots 927475117 - Car bootsales are fab H H We meet all sorts of lovely people there, actually many people in BG have no British in their area and going to a car bootsale helps them to socialize, also the Bulgarian are loving them too. Anoher postive side is look at all the bargains you can find in a car boot sale H g - The majority of our children in Bulgaria are dressed from bootsale. Will start making my lists :Busy:soon now they will be starting up again in March.

So car bootslaes gets the g g g up from me Car Boots 2581928987

I've only been to one here, but a few people were selling plants and veg for growing on. Personally I see nothing wrong with this.
A good many Bulgarians attended too! c

I don't have a problem with car boot sales in fact I have been to some and have had some good bargains, what I don't like is the Brits trying to set up their own little communities, to me if that is what you want then stay in the UK

it' surprises me that boot sales have a bad name on here after all they are another name for market isn't it.
Well i do go to them i spend all my money on childrens clothes and i don't have little children but there are plenty of them in the orphanage that need help. I only buy new or nearly new If any one does venture to VT campsite bootsale on the last sunday of each month we try to go camping at the same time for the weekend and we do readings Indian head massage reflexology there so any one wanting help in that way see you there. As for wanting a clicky english life in Bulgaria the answer is no thanks. I love Bulgaria it's way of life and the people in it
I agree with pixie we make our own sausages and bulgarian bacon is fine and a big breakfast at home is a delight can't beat it hope the sun shines for boot sales this year s

I don't think its necessarily negative to express dislike of carboots. Just an opinion. Oddie you are too good for this world but it does remind me to think of why some of us (me?) who are nice people but more realistic about life, cannot always make jolly, happy responses.
I have just had a flying visit to England for my Aunt's funeral. She was 97 and a more peaceful, quiet, gardening loving lady you could not wish to meet. So different to my Mother, her sister. I stayed the night with my cousin and her husband and it was lovely to meet all my family and hers again and to see them all bonding after so long apart. My thoughts were that my cousin's life was so different to mine. She has a lovely small house just outside of town on an estate. Her husband has finally retired at 72 which is amazing as he was twice made redundant during his working life. My Aunt lived all her life with family until her last years in a nursing home while my cousin managed to work as a school assistant and now still does 2 days a week in a care home. She is coming up 69. I am sure that with 4 children they have had their ups and downs and have only had holidays recently to visit children living in America and New Zealand. I think they are wonderful. I sent them a thank you letter full of admiration but said that my life has been very different but I hold no envy. They are nice, good people with friends and a great love of rugby. It makes me question myself but I equally know that I am a nice person but have had many more knocks along the way both in childhood and as an adult in foreign lands. I am more cynical although I try not to be. I will help anyone who comes to my door but admire anyone elses committment to more charity work.

So when I have a difficult day or make cynical or angry remarks its because life has knocked the corners off and its sometimes difficult to see the bigger picture. Do I make any sense??? I always manage to bounce back thank goodness. So if you love car-boots then good for you but I just don't and will never go to one although I have just been invited! Its a British thing even if some Bulgarians do like them. Car Boots 3023850720

What a great post and expressed in an honest and interesting way. Your outlook on life is so very similar to mine, I'm wondering that we might have been related in a former life..my twin sister perhaps? It sounds as if you were educated in 'the school of hard knocks', just as I was. I am a cyncical person these days, although I didn't start out that way...I've seen so much senseless killing and bloodshed, I think I built a brick wall around the soft centre which only a very few people ever see..and insist that I have. I try to live my life as a 'nice' person, an honest one who will generally give people the 'benefit of the doubt', but I will always speak my mind and offer a comment based on how I see the situation. Some folk, including a few on here, from time to time, find that a bit confrontational or abrasive, sometimes even provocative and I would generally agree with them as I can be all of that. I have two mottos which I stick to (mostly)

1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you....only, do it first.

2. If you don't like me..don't look at me. Go away..nothing to see here.

PS. I still don't like car boot sales.

:Thank you:bgbazz - Seems we are kindred spirits and its heartening to know I am not alone. I have obviously built up walls around me and maybe thats why some might think me overbearing, opinionated, stubborn etc etc etc when really I am very nervous and want to be liked and there when needed. Those qualities have been exploited over the years and now I am in my dotage I don't seem so 'needy' to pander to those who wish to use me in any way. I am still anybody's friend but it takes time nowadays.
Which brings me back to carboots. There is a lot of úsing' going on to my mind. Bulgaria has bazaars - one comes to our village regularly - and its fun looking at his sometimes unusual wares. I agree that you can wander round at carboots but I still feel that the underlying reason is for Brits to meet Brits and have a gossip. Its easy to profess friendship when buying goods and lining pockets etc. Takes more than that for me. Plants and everything that is found in a car boot is easily sourced in Bulgarian bazaars and outlets but if you crave more familiar surroundings then good for you. I don't seem to.

I agree that you can wander round at carboots but I still feel that the underlying reason is for Brits to meet Brits and have a gossip. Its easy to profess friendship when buying goods and lining pockets etc. Takes more than that for me.

Why do Brits feel the great need to go hunting for Brits to befriend (and as you say to gossip)- I will stick to my BG ones thanks
