I'm feeling angry Empty
PostSubject: I'm feeling angry   I'm feeling angry Icon_minitimeThu Feb 21, 2013 2:41 pm

I was wondering today exactly why people thinking of coming to live in Bulgaria think that they will be out of the rat-race they complain about in Britain. Its no wonder Bulgarians ask why we would consider moving here. Yes housing is cheaper but Bulgaria has plenty of problems of her own as the resignation of the Government today shows. Think how hard Bulgarians have to work for their meagre wages. Think of the low level of their health care. Think of the corruption which penetrates from top to bottom also see the protests over the last few days. Does any expat think that living in a renovated house with all mod-cons is going to be their life forever with no back up except what might seem to be a healthy savings account for the present? Of course, if you have a pension you can survive financially better here but at what cost? Can you really integrate into Bulgarian village life? If you have to work do you really want to exist on car boot revenue for the rest of your life? What are you going to do socially for the rest of your life? Without being a part of your village and trying to absorb village life I would suggest you won't be staying long hence the high amount of properties for sale. Two years honeymoon and two years deciding to go or to stay and then putting the property on the market is my prediction.

Why Village life? There are plenty of Towns and Cities to choose from, maybe that's why many haven't been able to climatise to their new life. I'm in a City, Burgas, and there are so many things to do, so many friends and activities throughout the year. The "
good life"
(sorry Richard) isn't what it's cracked up to be, there is too much time to "
ponder"
, crikey even the villagers themselves wish to out.

Interesting point ' Mr one beer'..one can but wonder! If you crave the city life, just stay home in the UK..prices will rise here in the cities and it won't be all that long before they are on a par with any other EU country, and after you take into consideration the cost of selling up, moving, buying a new place to live in a new city, renovating to suit your lifestyle..I have to wonder if it's all worth it. On the other hand, those folk who seek, peace and quiet, a relaxed lifestyle in a rural area can still find it..and it's not likely to change any time soon. These things do come at a price, but it's nowhere as high as what you have to pay to swap to something you already have. Some of us are very happy with the 'good life'.

Rant over..sorry if you don't like it.

I'm not sure that it is a rant bgbazz. But we all have our own taste's in where we live. We moved from an estate based home to a rural home. But some people prefer City/ Town life. Live and let live me thinks. One mans wine is another mans poison and all that. g

sorry you are feeling angry but why are you feeling angry.
We bought renervared and live in Bulgaria in a small town with no other english we have tried to learn as much english as we can employ as many locals as we can spend our money in the local shops restaurant and market and we have as many friends here as we can deal with. My husband repairs all their internet and computer problems i am teaching them to heal their selves through massage indian head massage and reflexology. We go to our local church enjoy the traditions and dance group and fit in very well i think.
We help with things at the play school christmas stockings for instance and help teach the older kids with their english lessons. Do we fit in have we fitted in for the last 8 years will we continue to fit in We believe the answer is absolutely. Come summer we will never be with out fresh fruit and veg fresh eggs every saturday from free range chickens loads of places to visit haven't seen all we want to yet. we go to the local cinema and theatre there are a host of wonderful historical buildings and museums to visit the beach the shops and what we don't know we can learn a long the way. It is completely up to the individual to make it work where ever they live be it Essex England or as in my case Straldja Bulgaria. Yor prediction for us is way off and i hope my information has helped you to loose your anger and mellow and think about how you can make your life where ever you are

Exactly, I live/d in the middle of nowhere in the UK and to "
live"
in an "
alive"
city with all the trimmings (inc beach/bars/concerts/sports &
facilities, 70+'c from May til Oct s etc etc etc) appeals to me personally, Hey fella i'm not having a go at your post it's just that you mentioned "
village"
a few times, i'm just pointing out that there are alternatives to the "
good life"
for anyone wishing to flee the sceptred isle. I have met dissolusioned people who hoped to come over and make a living dog grooming, car booting, running a bar and the like, i blame to "
place in the sun"
type programmes for not telling it as it is, you could just as well be writing about Spain, France, Turkey as it applies just the same.

We came here in 2011 and we are still getting sorted out with one thing and another.I have not had much to do with the village in general but have made good friends with a neighbour and have been to their place for dinner. In my village the only event that I have heard of as a social gathering is "
Babaden"
which my wife has been to. I have found that life here is very quiet which suits us as we came to retire and not to kick our heels up as we have done that one.Life here depends on what you want how old you are and your finances. We are both in our early sixties and have no need to work as I have a pension and income from a property in the UK so we are comfortable. Now we have met Brit couples who really should not be here as one we know of lives on benifits and drink most of it away. There there is a female couple in our village who will not speak to any Brit if they don't speak Bulgarian as they have intregated into the Bulgarian village way of life which is fine but that's a step to far I think. That's us of their social list,oh bother! We were going to retire in Australia as my wife comes from there but there are bugs out there that will eat you and besides it is as exspensive to live there as it is in the UK and if you like the beach that is fine.Spain is washed up but as it was pointed out the place is a little Britain. The thing I love about Bulgaria is that it's like living back in the 60's, frustrating at times with their round the houses attitude to get anything done but having said that the people are great!

Very interesting replies. My rant was more to do with Brits who leave Britain because they think they will automatically have a life with no problems. In view of the recent uprising of the 'peasants'of Bulgaria who have had enough they must by now be realising that there are problems but just different ones which will probably impact on their lives somehow. I cannot stand the rubbishing all the time of Britain both by expats and the media.

Its all very well to say its okay living in towns and cities with all facilities, beaches etc. but it has to be paid for and I would suggest that villages appeal to those who cannot afford to live in these places not understanding how limited life can be there and what hard work tilling the land is. Not all the good life - back breaking and disappointing when crops fail due to weather. I am thinking of those in their 40s and 50s and not those of pension age.

I am well happy with my lifestyle here and have little to no social life with resident Brits who do nothing in the village but drink in the local bar. If thats what they want fine by me but what of the future? Best not to think about that - lets have another drink.

I could go on but will stop now because today I am happier and feel grateful for my life in retirement even if I don't have money for a car and eating out in the city. We are liked by the villagers and whilst my Bulgarian is still very limited I understand most of what is said to me which is much appreciated by the Bulgarians.

I recognise that we don't live in a rosy world and feel very sorry to those whose lives are not as happy. I wish I could do more to help but the best I can do is smile and show understanding of those without the luxury of even my basic State Pension. We did a local lad's washing yesterday because he has so little, not even water but he is a happy soul. I take a leaf out of his book.

As the title of the topic refers to nothing in particular i thought i would paste (if the moderators will permit) a few words from a "
lesser Bulgarian Forum"

This is a reply from their moderator on the thorny issue of advertising on their site ......................

And I find it pretty ridiculous that you can get away with talking about the "
owners"
so openly - remember you can be deleted at the click of a button

Listen - people who are "
recommending"
hotels we found had been recommending their own hotels, people saying oh there is a stand selling a certain item when its clearly them selling the item!

The rules are simple - don't advertise - this rule has been in place from August 2012 but you all still try to defy it!

I think you all forget what we say goes - if you don't like it then...

WOW!!!! I'm lost for words, is it sheer arrogance or xenophobia, I'm not feeling angry of course cos i'm not a member of that forum, g

To be honest that forum you are talking about is full of back stabbers and has become less that useful, I see the topic is now locked. I'm glad I'm only a member here and this forum is very fair and never leaves me feeling angry. I'm feeling angry 570106603

Yes I suppose this could be a topic for getting things off your chest [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] This is a happy forum with room for discussions and differences without being nasty. I am very surprised that a Moderator/Admin should reply in this way. Moderators should be moderate in their replies and not descend to such open hostility even if they are right. The upside is that this forum seems to be getting more members maybe from that site.
