Propane Gas Empty
PostSubject: Propane Gas   Propane Gas Icon_minitimeSat Aug 25, 2012 7:03 am

I have just had 12 cube of wood delivered sawn and chopped and stacked and has cost me just over a 1000Lv.I don't know where you live if this is reasonable or not but I am thinking of converting to Propane gas.I have central heating fitted with 11 radiators and two heated bath towel rails in the shower rooms. In the Uk you can have one of those "
Calor"
gas tanks placed on your property to power the heating system and I am wondering if the same service can be obtained here. It seems that if the cost of wood goes on rising it may be a choice I would make and have my heating converted to propane so long as the deliveries are available and works out roughly the same cost. I did think about propane before I moved out here as I am like us all not getting any younger and propane is much easier as there is no cleaning to do once the fire is out and the heating is instant.Do you know of anyone who has a propane fueled heating system?

I think you paid a little to much for your logs however it does depend on the region? A pellet boiler is much cheaper, about 4000 leva to install and around 300 leva a month in winter. Biomass system on wood pellets. Is about 2500 lvs for the burner/boiler and pump, and about 150 leva a month for the pellets.

You could try contacting this company they may be able to help but as I said lpg in Bulgaria for heating is very expensive, I think you can get a tank installed for about 8000 leva these days but you will need to check it out.

I agree with BGT it's very expensive to heat with gas you could look at the price of heating oil it maybe anther option, as for the logs you bought I think you paid to much ? was that chopped or not? s

Can't help with the gas question, but you paid a fair bit over the odds for your wood!

Further to the above regarding gas..you may have noticed that many of the smaller fuel stations have closed down following the requirement for them to be linked into the tax dept [my village one did just that, due to the cost of linking..7000leva!]. There will be, or are, a lot of these gas tanks sitting doing nothing and probably going cheap. I got this info from my wifes cousin who owned the fuel supply here up until 3 months ago..he still has all the equipment, but refuses to pay the stupid fee. I asked him about his gas tank but he's not selling it, instead moving it over to his dairy, for use there.

Something to consider.

Thanks for your replies! Here in and around Brestak inlcuding Vulchi Dol and the Varna district the going rate is 70lv per cubic meter and 80lv sawn and chopped with free delivery. I know my friends who live in Popina near Silistra pay in the region of 50-60lv per cubic meter but that is not having been sawn chopped or delivered.I don't understand why the price varies from region to region as I know the Bulgarians must talk to each other who sell the wood and realise one is getting a better price for it.The other thing that I didn't know is that on each delivery you must be given a document which is a goverment document with a silver strip on the top right hand corner which says"
иаг"
or "
IAG"
what ever that means showing the amount of wood and the price charged! Last year I paid 60lv per cubic meter as logs and never got this document so I suspect the wood was illegaly cut. I have been informed on good authority from a mate of mine who is a Bulgarian police officer that if you do not have this document and if your wood is checked which does happen apparently one is in deep do do. Down my way the going price, at the moment is 45 to 48 leva for pine, cut, split and delivered. The lower price is a discount if you buy more than 5 cubic metres. Oak will cost about 65 to 68 leva for the same deal. The IAG thingy only has to kept by the woodyard and if you have your receipt to show where you got your wood from there's no problem.

I use oak because it lasts about three times longer than pine and puts out much greater heat. [Calorific value]

Ha! I didn't know that you can get Pine as it is all Oak in this area and your 68lv is closer to my mark!

Can't be totally sure if the pine is available everywhere, but it's readily found down here.

I think you may find that Pine burns quicker than Oak but not sure?

I shall put the high price of wood down to living in the Varna district as I was talking to a Bulgarian neighbour and he said that he paid 70lv per cubic meter for just the logs. He said you can get it cheaper illegaly for 50lv for logs via the gypsies but the police are red hot on this in this area and is not worth the hassle.I am still puzzled really by the different cost of wood throughout Bulgaria and it seems that I am not paying over the odds here.I tried everywhere as my Bulgarian mate went and spoke to the suppliers for me not letting on it was for an Englishman and the same result, 70lv per cubic meter! We tried Dobrich, Valchi Dol, Surorovo, and a village near Varna which has a name I cannot pronounce let alone spell!

As I said in my earlier post, it does burn quicker than oak and doesn't produce quite as much heat.

I bought 10 cubic metres (not chopped, but delivered) for 350 Leva, through our village mayor. I also have some chopped up wood that cost 60 Leva per cubic. The price of wood will go up due to general rising fuel costs.

That sounds about right for unchopped wood. I think the variance in prices have a lot to do with where it comes from. In my area the timber is harvested fairly close by. I see my woodyard getting logs delivered almost every day by the same truck..they have very good facilities on site to cut the logs into 1 metre lengths, then split them using a hydraulic splitting bench. They further cut some of these into 'foot' blocks, so that they maintain a goodly supply of both sizes. The pine is brought down from the hills behind Assenovgrad and the oak from the forests just up the road from me.
