| It is hard to appreciate how a landslide can happen when Bulgaria has had no or very little rain in the last four months It would be easier to understand if it was reported that there had been a minor earthquake (see the picture) The main thing is that nobody has lost their life or been injured [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| They've known about this for a long time but like everything in Bulgaria they leave it till its to late. Heres a clipping from the Sofia echo 2007
The road to the Black Sea coastal resort of Golden Sands could be moved because of landslides, Regional Development Minister Assen Gagauzov said.
An eventual relocation needs to get municipal approval first.
Gagauzov said that 3.5 million euro will be allocated for dealing with the landslide. Part of the money can be utilized this year, if experts say that work in the landslide region is possible.
If the landslide is still moving, no work can be done there. Its movement could continue for years, in which case the road needs to be moved, Gagauzov said.
In Varna, Gagauzov discussed other infrastructure developments and the funding for these. Part of the money will come from the World Bank and will be used to finish the construction of four dams throughout the country. |

| Thanks for that Blink, Gagauzov got something right then when he said the road needs to be moved, it's moved alright If the landslide is still moving, no work can be done there. Its movement could continue for years, in which case the road needs to be moved, Gagauzov said. |

| And just to add to this it seems that VG has a point According to Art. 1 of the European Landscape Convention (promulgated, SG. 22 of 15.03.2005, in force from 01.03.2005 g; ratified by an Act of the 39th National Assembly on 13.10.2004 - SG . 94 of 22.10.2004) the term " landscape" is defined as " territory specific look and elements that have arisen as a result of the action and interaction of natural and / or human factors" . Among the biggest problems of the territories of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast are landslides and their activities. Over 95% of them occurred from natural causes in past geological times. However, they are now substantially enhanced by human intervention - intensive construction and road construction, irrational irrigation delays in the construction of sewerage systems and more. Significant damage to the coast also causes landslides and abrasion. |
