Hiya, we bought my sons 50cc moped over to Bulgaria from the uk but now its due for insurance renewal and mot. We want to register it in Bulgaria but any advise as to what the regulations are for it over here and what we need to do to have it registered to Bulgarian Plates ets.

We know so far that it does not require a vignette but that is all we are able to find out. Please help as he doesnt want to not be able to ride it when insurance runs out

hi there you need the log book take that and the scooter to the local kat office and they will registar it bg take a translator with you as the forms you need to fill in are a lot also take you house documents as proof you reside in bg ok thanks

The insurance company may need the registration number prior to giving you the insurance certificate, unless they will insure it using the frame number until you get the registration papers.

One Tip: When visiting KAT take as much paperwork as humanly possible as usually, they will make sure you've forgotten one vital piece! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Do as Chris has said and take all the paperwork you can think of and then take more.

Hi Silverbird,

You need to get an insurance first, then go to KAT and get temporary plates, they are white with a red stripe ( shows the deadline to repurchase/register ). In most cases you will be allowed to drive with these for one month. Insurance will be without license plate number, once you obtain them ( takes 10-30 days ) you have to go to your insurance agent and he will issue an add-on to your policy which will show the plates. Ask whether you will need A1 category to ride it, I know a few bikers and they all told me if it is over 50cc or if it can go over 50km/h - you may need an A1 driving license ( we had that case just two weeks ago so had to call some and ask ).

Forgot to mention - you need the temporary plates only if you want to ride it to KAT. If you`re bringing it there with another kind of transport and not on its own, then you can register it directly but you still need to get the insurance in the way I have sugested above.

Just reading the post above by scanspeak and I'm curious about what takes 10 to 30 days. Could you explain please.
