Just to answer the question..yes, there are translators and interpreters, but they are two different classications here in Bulgaria. My wife is registered as both and is kept very busy translating government documents for submission to the EU parliament and various other agencies. In her spare? time she translates publications, technical manuals and books written in either English, French, Bulgarian or Russian into and from those languages.
She also interprets verbally when the need arises..we have just returned from an international dog show [4 hours ago] which was hosted here in Bulgaria, where the principal judge was from Wales. My wife was the 'right hand man' for the judge during the entire show and it went down very well and smoothly..we had participants from Bulgaria, Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Serbia, Hungary, Romania, UK, France, Holland and Germany and it was an interesting time. Dutch is the only language which proved difficult, mainly because the exhibiter refused to speak German or English [which both he and I share]. Interestingly, most folk at the show thought she was an English lady who just happened to be able to speak a dozen other languages! Even the judge and his family thought she was a Brit..with an Aussie accent!
One of the avenues that could be explored, if one needs the services of these professionals, is the local high school..English teachers are all registered and would probably be happy to help for a bit of extra income.
