recently found this web-site that some of you may find interesting, its called GUIDE FOR THE BULGARIAN MOUNTAINS, i came across it whilst looking up some of the mountain huts that i have been too, i could not believe how many there are scattered around the mountains,it seems Ihave a lot more to discover.
The web-site contains a lot of very interesting facts besides the huts.

Hi Daveshaz &
anyone else interested, on further inspection most of that site is in Bulgarian, what I have done is to goggle search for "
mountain huts in Sredna Gora"
and "
mountain huts in Stara Planina (middle)"
as these are the areas near to the village (Kliment) &
Sopot and Karlova (the closest towns) where Tanya`s parents live. This has lead me into more and more interesting web-sites and articles about the area. I have also discovered (maybe some of you knew this) that by double clicking the pictures on goggle earth, it takes you to an amazing amount of extra photographs either of the area clicked or more photos by the owner of the original photo, on a site called panoramio.
I am trying to make up a rough map of the position of all of the fairly near huts, as there does not seem to be much in the way of maps around (although I have tried a lot of the trekking web-sites).
I have read an article about a 4.5 hour walk from Karlova following the river up into the mountains, aparently it is a beautiful walk and there are 3 huts onthe way Hubavets, Balkanski Roza and Vasil Levski, I am going to have to try to do this one when I get the cahance.
I have visited 2 of the huts in the Stara Planina mountains by catching the chair lift just above Sopot, this takes you to station 1, and on Sundays they run the second smaller lift up to station 2, from here it is a short walk to hut Nezabravka (which is more like a small hotel) and from there you can go in either direction along the paths that follow the ridge , we went left and walked to hut Dobrila.
I have also visited 3 of the huts in the Sredna Gora mountains, on my off road motorbike, we rode out of the village up to hut sedemte- partizani which is looked after by guys in our village, then on to hut srednogorets then on to hut fenera, a round trip that took most of the day stopping here and there. I also visited the complex Byalo kamene in the car on another day, but actually its not far from hut srednogorets once you are up there.
One day i will get my off road Suzuki sj413 over to the village, then I can really start to explore the mountains, in the meantime I will have to walk or take the off road motorbike.
