| Alitalia’s low-cost “smart carrier” Air One to launch third base with international flights from Venice Marco Polo Air One, the so-called “smart carrier” (and subsidiary of Alitalia), has announced its third base in Italy after Milan Malpensa and Pisa. From the beginning of May, the airline will introduce ‘low-cost’ flights from Venice Marco Polo Airport to 11 international destinations – Athens, Barcelona, Brussels, Bucharest, Istanbul, Menorca, Palma de Mallorca, Prague, Sofia, Tirana and Warsaw. Alitalia’s only services from Venice are to 10 domestic destinations, but it remains the airport’s leading airline in terms of weekly seat capacity. | This winter has been bad for some people wishing to go to their families and friends, there is a distinct lack of flights to lots of places, not least BG. We had to catch a plane from Bodrum to Istanbul, change to the International Terminal which took ages to reach from the Domestic Terminal. Of course we were pulling two cases from one terminal to the other and no trolleys available " typical." We then took the flight from Istanbul to Sofia and then a 2½ car drive to VT. There has been a fair few airlines that have gone bust in the past couple of years and travelling in the winter has to be looked at very carefully before booking. Air-One will start in May, but will there be any winter flights that is the big question. : : : : |
