PostSubject: Traveling from Bulgaria   Traveling from Bulgaria Icon_minitimeTue Oct 18, 2011 12:07 am

A new topic. It would be intresting to find out members views as to why so many people are leaving Bulgaria, Traveling from Bulgaria 927475117
it can't be to seek a better life, or can it ???

On a recent trip the Wizzair flight to Bourgas had approx 25 empty seats, on the return flight four day's later it was full, does that indicate that more and more are leaving Bulgaria than staying. I am sure they were not leaving because they read about the pending weather forcast :C:
Let's have some positive input with news and views T

September and October flights to UK from Bulgaria are usually full .. mainly due to the people who have summer homes here ..6 months or so stayers ..returning home to UK till next spring

Lack of research and finding out what Bulgaria is really like instead of believing everything they are told by the agents .I think there were some that left because they weren't suited to Bulgaria and weren't sure what they were getting into because they didn't research enough so they only have themselves to blame.

Quite simply it is tourists and long stayers going home. We have the same in Altinkum with long term tourists who stay for the entire summer and late holidaymakers, usually the older generation who come when the children have gone back to school and the flights and hotels are cheaper. October is reknowned for being one of the best months for businesses being busy and taking good money here. Of course the planes taking them all home arrive here in Bodrum or Izmir more or less empty because the season is coming to an end.

Its a bit more than that I think? its not just the tourists etc this is a mass exodus from Bulgaria and you only have to look at the false promises Bulgaria has made in the past to see why? in addition to that lets start with all the litter that is scattered all round the towns, The drainage in the villages and the smaller town, The criminals that are allowed to get away with just about anything, The promised infrastructure that hasn't happened and not likely too, The health service which leaves so much to be desired, Prejudice against the Roma, I could go on and on but there you have just a few points and lets not forget the ever increasing cost of flights to and from Bulgaria. Because most of the owners now regret their purchase .not cheap anymore, infrastructure is a joke.18-21 now invading the resorts and all the rubbish which goes with it. Prostitution is rife. Seasons are short, rent is non existent, burglaries are becoming more common, what else do you want as a answer? I think that`s enough. Sorry people . Don`t worry.next time do better.

sallyann, I think your comments here are a little harsh as we are not all tarred with the same brush
One of the biggest problems I feel is that we must not compare Bulgaria of four years ago with Bulgaria of today. Many of us did plenty of research , I for one spent a year travelling to and fro from the UK, covering many miles, visiting many villages and seaside resorts before a decision was made to purchase a home in a little village, nicely situated for the town (7km) the beach (24 km) and the airport (40km)
All the research in the world would not have helped us as far as our ongoing situation is concerned, but we haven't given in to the criminals, and I know for a fact that crime is a serious problem and is still not improving
Let me make it quite clear. I and my family love Bulgaria and many of the people who live there but we never compare the UK with Bulgaria or visa versa, there is no point, there is good and bad in both countries, and we should all live and let live just like the party we had in our villa last year, half Brit's and half Bulgarian

Sorry Brian I wasn't taring all but merely an observation of those who are now off to other places and speaking from my own experience of listening to what's being said by those I know who have left and others too. I understand that some have researched as much as they feel they could have with the information available at the time but unfortunately some of the information they may have got from certain forums may have been biased towards Bulgaria because of advertising and real estate.

That's true varnagirl, but you have to remember we haven't been part of the Bulgarian fixtures and fittings as long as you have c Traveling from Bulgaria 1865348797
As a matter of interest perhaps you could tell the members, how many expats were in your village, say between 4 and 8 years ago and now, because I believe quite a number have left, if that is right I wonder why
Look forward to your reply Traveling from Bulgaria 1536469901

I believe that there is a great difference to emigrating straight from the UK than emigrating from Turkey to BG. Anyone emigrating straight from the UK will be in a for shock as we were going to Turkey from the UK. The way things are done by local and regional government are a lot different to the UK, this, together with the culture, traditions and the way of life in any country takes some getting used to. Turkey and BG are not a lot different with the way they indulge in huge amounts of paperwork for the simplest transaction and that, plus the time span or time warp in many cases for action being taken for some mundane operation would be too much for some people. Having lived in Turkey for 5 years we believe that we will be ready for some of the arduous work required to live what many would call a normal life in BG. Some will be easier and some will be harder to accomplish, but at least not much will come as such a shock as coming from the UK to live in BG.

Very very true varnagirl.

Before you move here you have to take into account the area to which you wish to live, winters over here can be very harsh and if you live in a small village you have to be aware about shops, where to buy wood for heating your house. The roads over here are terrible. also please know not everyone over here understands English especially in a small village, Sofia is a very expensive place to live, VT is nice but again most big cities are expensive to live in. Varna which is a resort city in the summers is great because there is so much to do but in winters everything shuts down as the tourist stop coming. Then there is the massive corruption over here, especially with the estate agents, who try to get you thinking they are your friends, THEY ARE NOT!! and if you meet other English people who live over here also please be careful with them because not all of them are what you think? I'm sorry to say this but there is just as much corruption with some of the Brits as there is with the Bulgarians. So to sum up why is everybody bailing out? in my opinion its because here in Bulgaria the way of life is very different from that of the uk in many ways and the culture here can be a bit of a shock to the system, these are things that can not be experienced on any forum but on by giving it a go and in a lot of cases as we all know it turns to tears. Bulgaria is no different to any other country when it comes to corruption but for some odd reason Brits come over with rose coloured spectacles thinking that they have found their paradise and nothing is going to go wrong? but even in the safest and best of countries this is not the case. Living the the uk most of us are used to having all the shops in close proximity and being able to get what we want when we want without the need for a translator or any other difficulties but here in Bulgaria this isn't the case for example in the uk if you run out of say Nescaffe then its an easy fix but here in Bulgaria unless you live in a town with a big supermarket then its a problem. then there is the so called police who spend most of their time doing nothing but issuing speeding fines or trying to rob you of a bribe. There are so many reasons why people leave Bulgaria or any other country they have moved to and lets be honest walking through your village and witnessing the killing of a pig and listening to the animal squealing isn't very pleasant but again its all part of the life here so I guess some people are not quite ready for Bulgaria yet ? s
