Thousands of pharmacies in Bulgaria could close for missing tax link deadline
About half Bulgaria's pharmacies could face serious fines and closure unless they move fast to meet the August 31 2011 deadline for linking their cash registers to National Revenue Agency servers.
The agency said on August 24 2011 that about 2000 pharmacies so far had linked up 3642 cash registers to the tax authority's servers.
All pharmacies in Bulgaria registered for Value-Added Tax are required to meet the deadline, failing which they will face fines of up to 10 000 leva each - along with being shut down.
The agency said that the figures it had in hand meant that half the pharmacies in Bulgaria had not linked their cash registers to agency servers.
On September 1, National Revenue Agency inspectors will begin checks of pharmacies.
