We have just gone through the procedure of renewing our long term residency cards in VT and thought it might be good to post the requirements here so everyone knows the upto date picture.

There is no copier at KAT so make sure you have photocopies of every thing before you go as they attach the copies to the form.

You will need:

1. Your passport.

2. Evidence of health cover - This can be your EHIC. We are retired so have had our NHS transferred by the S1 system so used our Bulgarian Health Fund Certificates.

3. Document for property - We rent so had to provide our rental contract, but if you own your own property then I guess it is your deeds.

4. Certificate from the Bank proving you have an account and funds. Note - we live on Johns pension which is paid into his bank here. I do not have an account, and although I provided proof of my pension which goes into my UK account and had this translated, they would not accept it. So I suggest you each have an account.

5. Declaration from Notary, saying you will not claim social assistance from Bulgaria. Note - because they would not accept my pension, we had to have an extra section on Johns declaration saying he would provide for me. We then also had to include a copy of our marriage licence.

The card is issued for a length of time dependant upon the date of expiry of any of the above whichever is the shortest. We only got 3 years because our rental contract is only for 3 years.

The card costs 10 lev each. Once you have this you can then apply for the photo one which costs 21 lev.

Hope this might help.

We also went through this a few weeks ago in VT. We have our own property but didn't need to show the deeds, and did not need
to show out marriage certificate. We also had to sign a disclaimer re claiming any benefit - is this actually legal in the EU?
I also had to say I would support my husband financially as the bank account is in my name! He'd better behave himself though.
We are allowed to stay until the EHIC expires.
All in all, a relatively easy experience, and grateful thanks to our translator. We received our cards in 3 days - we paid extra
as our 3 months were very nearly up!
Getting the car registered later was not so easy - but I stayed at home and let my poor husband sort it out! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hi EllieMay, did you get my PM yesterday? I sometimes have a problem with my e-mails.

Thanks to whoever increased my karma - much appreciated! T

Collected out little white cards today g When you collect these you can apply to have the new photo one. This process is fairly simply, they give you a form already printed with your details and you just have to tick that each bit is correct and sign. You need to take photocopy of your passport with you which they attach. They then take you to another room and take your photo. This all costs 21lev and ours will be ready in a month. Once you have this you need not carry your passport unless you are going somewhere official.
