We moved to VT 3 months ago and have recently registered with a very pleasant lady doctor here. We are in the fortunate position of being able to transfer our NHS entitlement over to Bulgaria due to age and disability, which means we are now classed as being in the Bulgarian Health Fund.

In the 2 visits we have had with Dr. Dencheva, we have both had ECG's, check ups and full blood screens. The blood tests are superb, we went this morning at 9am and had the results on line by 1pm. I have also been refered to an endochrinologist due to thyroid problems which I have had for 10 years and all the UK doctors would do was give me thyroid replacement pills.

All for the cost of 5 lev.

I know this isn't the case for everybody and I know there are some who are not happy with the system, but I must say we are very pleased, only sorry that we have to use a translator as my Bulgarian isn't up to scratch yet. g

Glad to hear praises for Bulgarian health care. Our village has a doctor's visit once a week and everyone queues up to see him. I don't even know his name, but I was advised by an optician to have my blood pressure checked. I eventually queued up with everyone else complete with dictionary because I didn't expect him to speak English (he doesn't). I managed to explain what I needed and he checked immediately. Sure enough it was dangerously high. He immediately gave me 3 pills to take that night and a prescription. I went back the following week and it was down but still high so I had a new prescription for two more pills. Its now down to normal which is great. My daughter says its unusual to have the right pills first time as there are often side effects. She also checked the presciption and said it was absolutely correct. She was impressed and so was I. No appointment needed, in fact, the second and third visit I was put at the head of others because he knew I would be quick.
He has also prescribed for my partner which has kept his problem under control. I have not even got round to registering with the Bulgarian Health system although I am entitled, but the costs are so cheap I haven't bothered. Great diagnosis and quick service for an excellent price.

my partner was poorly last year and he is not yet registered with a doctor. the local doctor who we call dr george [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] sent him straight to hospital for various tests, these tests revealed problems. the doctor personally took him to a specialist and a courier was called from varna to pick up a special blood sample.
diagnosis made and treatment given and ongoing. you cannot fault that, total cost 100 leva, worth every penny. g s

Glad to see so many positive posts about the health care in bulgaria. We were advised by our bulgarian neighbour that your ok as long as they don't prescribe the yellow pills. apparently i'm led to believe that the yellow pills mean your terminal. I really hope he was joking. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Yet again I am in awe of the doctors here. I had an appointment today with an endocrinologist to check my thyroid medication was still at the right dose. She was amazed to learn that although I have been on medication for 10years I have never had a scan or anything to check the gland. She also suggested I see a Neurologist to check on my MS.
In the space of 2hours, I had been seen by the endocrinologist, had blood tests, given an appointment for Friday for my scan and was seen by the Neurologist (he is lovely - think I am in love! H). Have to take my papers from my specialist in the UK to him on Friday and then go to VT hospital for MRI (200 lev).

I would have waited months for all that to happen back home, I waited 4 months just for a neurology appointment. I am not knocking the NHS, just so pleased with my treatment here.

Took the boss to the Dentist yesterday with a gum problem. She had an xray and was referred to a specialist straight away. He wanted a panoramic xray, again done and dusted, diagnosis made. Treatment scheduled. In praise of our Bulgarian doctor. 2706089290 In praise of our Bulgarian doctor. 2706089290 In praise of our Bulgarian doctor. 2706089290
